Hi - This is The Jurassic Sandman, Geologist Jerry Bergosh. Our Original Jurassic Sand is neither hydrophobic or hydrophilic. Unless you are using it for some advanced scientific experiments I would say it is pretty much neutral. To know more precisely would require advanced testing . Since the grains are pure quartz crystals with a trace of iron oxide coating I know the quartz grains don't absorb water given their crystal structure. Whether the trace of iron oxide coating does attract or repel water I don't know but given the trace amounts present, it would probably negligible . Hope this helps... The Jurassic Sandman

Since I'm familiar with the punching bag at my gym I would suggest you consider our Jurassic RiverBed Sand. It's the same price as Original but the bigger grain size of RiverBed will be less likely to leak out if your bag has a fabric weave. The Jurassic Sandman
