I assume that as modern cars are now computers on wheels needing special tools to work on them then the days of the home mechanic are numbered. I would also suspect that this fact is resulting in Haynes Manuals not selling in the numbers they did when most drivers also did a spot of car repair or at least basic maintenance. Nowadays the quality of the paper in the Haynes Manual is comparable to a yellow pages telephone directory and the quality of what is written on that paper has also dropped. The explanations in some parts of this manual are poor at best. I defy anyone to change the oil filter on a diesel Clio using the instructions in the manual. Even the photograph of the tool hovering near but note not attached to the old filter proves it is nigh on impossible with the tool shown. It is not all Haynes fault though as the Clio is a ridiculous car to work on requiring the road wheels to be removed to change a front headlamp! In future I will avoid buying the manual and reluctantly will just have to take the car to the main dealer who has the tools and equipment required.
