I am an amateur entomologist and really enjoy collecting different specimens of insects. Recently I have started spreading my own moths and butterflies and have experimented with different types of boards.I like this little kit, the soft foam board is a set of three foam blocks that you can adjust to size of the insect and the included pins are easy to push through to hold the specimen.The kits comes with two sets of fine tipped tweezers and also little snips that are the perfect size to clip excess legs depending on mounting preferences.The set comes with tracing paper, which I used to adjust the wings into place, but I prefer using glass slides to weigh down the wings in place while they dry (not included in kit).I really like this little set. It is perfect for beginners or as a backup mounting kit for anyone interested in spreading and collecting bugs!

The foam pieces in my kit are even and uniform for even drying. The tools work fine. (One pair of the tweezers are the same style included with the decorative bead kits for fingernails.)The specimen box is clear plastic--good for viewing but also prone to breaking if mishandled or dropped. When closed, it is secure enough to pick up the box by the lid only, but I would use a little masking tape to further secure the lid when showing a specimen to kids.Pins don't really fit in the specimen box as shown in the photo because the box has a depth of 1.5 inches. I confess I am not an insect collector at all: I got this just to get the tweezer and cutter set that is included, and I am happy with the tools. There are plenty of precision-tool or modelmaker's-supply stores that will charge you $6 or more for a single set of tweezers, so getting 3 tools in the kit looks like a decent value to me.

the plastic box came cracked and the pins came loose and fell out when i opened the box, everything else worked fine however

Surprisingly good quality tools for an inexpensive kit. Each has a bit of heft to it. Together with the pins, boards, and case, it makes a great starter set for any budding entomologist.

Neat usable pieces for my daughter who’s into science/ nature. She loves the tweezers and scissors for prepping things for her microscope. The box is a nice size, but I don’t understand how you’re suppose to get any bugs to stay in place inside - the foam boards aren’t the same size as the box (see pics). I wish they had pre-cut foam the size of the box so we could just plop it in there and pin away. We had to use a piece of paper towel for now to hold the cicada she discovered (don’t worry, it was dead when she found it and we didn’t harm it) :)She loves the kit and is excited about it.

I like that it comes with 2 different styles of precision tweezers. Very useful for delicate work. The snipers are also very well made. Plenty of pins and a good start for foam boards. Overall pleased with the assortment.

I got this kit because it contained everything I needed in one little package. Now I don't have to go running around to find all the supplies when I want to dry and mount an insect.
