Great idea, but not enough steps!
I bought this as I needed something that would keep the cat's food out of reach of our new puppy that was arriving shortly. Our previous dog had repeatedly devoured the cat food, as it was a nightmare to manage. So, I plumped for this. The platform structure is good and solid, and I felt confident that it would safely hold the weight of our ageing cat (4.5kg). The steps also are sturdy when secured, though I did upgrade the screws securing each step onto its wall plate to heavier gauge. The included rawl plugs I did use though, which are good for plaster walls provided you use the correct screwdriver to screw them in (Philips). The only reason for the four stars is due to the fact that I had to buy another kit to have enough steps for my cat to climb up and down! Three steps is not enough, as I wanted to future-proof the platform so that when the puppy grows to full size he still won't be able to help himself to the cat's food! My cat is also getting on a bit, and I didn't want to risk him falling or being unstable clambering up or down. But apart from the extra expense (and a wasted platform) it's all good. My cat has taken to it well, and I can finally leave the his food in place for him to help himself whenever he wants it.

Bought as a gift
They were exceptionally happy with the quality.

Unsafe and much smaller than photo suggests
The elements are loose fit and require additional screwing to stay together.

solid and sturdy, our cat loved it
I got this climbing shelf for our Bengal cat, because she really likes to climb on our furniture and we wanted to divert her attention away from our furniture. The set comes with a lookout platform shelf, and 3 smaller wooden step platforms wrapped with sisal rope. Installation is quite easy and straight forward - it requires to drill few holes to hold the shelves on the wall. The set includes all the necessary wall plugs and screws for the installation.I made sure to install the steps close by to each other, elevating each next one so that they create a sort of staircase. The installation does not take a lot of time , and I was very happy with the end result - everything was holding onto the wall very solid.I really liked that the steps are wrapped with a rope, in this case they not only serve as a stepping points to reach the main platform but our cat also likes to use them as a nail scratchers.I also added a little soft cover to the lookout platform, make sure that our little one is in comfort. Our cat really liked the new addition to her furniture.

A lot of work, but looks good when up
Well...this is quite nice when up. But boy, it takes a long time to assemble! The quality of the wood is reasonable, and the sisal wrap feels secure, though I'm not sure if it's glued tot he surface or not. I was surprised that the little railing around the perch didn't cover the whole of the perch, only the centre part, and although I initially thought the railing was too high, once you put a cushion/blanket in there for cat-comfort, it's pretty much right.I'd say you have to have a reasonable working knowledge of woodwork to get this done. For instance, there are no pilot holes drilled into any of the pieces, and in the instructions you're simply told to screw into the planks lengthways. I mean, obviously that's not going to work, you're either going to spend hours and lose your temper trying to screw directly into the plank, and probably come out one side or the other anyway because the screws are so long, or you're just going to split the planks trying to force the screw in. So you need tools; you need a drill, and you need the right drill-bit to drill tap holes for all the screws. But you'd need a drill and drill bits to get the parts on the wall anyway, I guess. The dowels however, are going to last two minutes unless they're glued in, so you need some PVA glue. Myself I also used coloured screwhead covers over the heads of the wall screws, as I didn't want to stare at the hardware forever. This is untreated pine, so you could also stain it or paint it if you wished. The kit did supply brick and dry-wall anchors, but I used my own.The instructions are a bit bare, I'd say. If you have patience and a bit of experience, or you're an Ikea king/queen, then you'll work it out by laying all the jumbled-together screws out by size, and figure out what screw is for what based on how many of each size you have, though in my case I was two screws short, so it was extra-confusing! Looking at other reviews there seems to be a lot of kits with something missing; the manufacturer really needs to be accurately weighing these kits before sealing them up, to make sure that all the parts are included! With the instructions for instance, the first thing I'd do is not start assembling steps, but sort out the railing on the perch, so that the PVA had time to dry before I started trying to wall-mount it. I'd also insert the pegs into the bar first, not the base, as you'll need to wiggle each one a bit to get them into the second set of holes, and that's going to be harder to do if you can't see, because you're trying to hit the underside of the railing, which you can't see (never work upside-down!)Once it was up, this is a very sturdy kit and I think it'll take the weight it's meant to. There's no wobble in anything, to make the cats nervous of climbing it. The corner shelf is a little on the small side, so check you can will fit, but most cats like smallish spaces anyway, so it may be a popular spot after a few weeks of wary side-eye ;)In all I'd say this is really a full-day project. It's not something you can complete in two hours one afternoon, and you're done. I'm not particularly fast at DIY but I'm not slow either. For the price, I think what you're getting in terms of wood and hardware, and (nearly!) everything arriving all together and ready to go is reasonable. But I do think that it should be made clearer that this is a project. The finished thing is sturdy and quite nice-looking though, and a good start to an aerial system.

Nice Craft Kit for Your Kitty
I was a bit surprised to find this to be an unassembled kit. The item description says “all you need to do is install it in the corner”. Well, yes . . . after assembling it! I do woodworking, so the assembly was no problem, but the item description should be more up-front for those who may not want to do a craft project. The wood is soft pine. The parts are accurately machined, so the pieces go together well. You will need a drill to make pilot holes for the screws – especially the ones that assemble the steps to their brackets because those screws go into end grain. Also, the dowels for the ornamental spindles need to be glued in place. Glue is not provided. The wood in unfinished but nicely sanded, so you will probably want to paint or varnish after assembling. Aside from these cautions, I found this to be a nicely designed set for making more activity space for your cat. Extra hardware including screws and two types of wall anchors are thoughtfully included. It may be a challenge to get the steps positioned on the wall so they look even and work for your kitty, but most folks who handle basic home maintenance should be up to the task.I found the completed project to provide a good set of steps and shelf for our cats.
