Norman Rockwell's Faith of America

A beautiful book f my favourite illustrator!

Excellent book. Norman Rockwell was a true genius of his genre. There are not many people who can hold a torch to his style of painting and the people on the page are indeed real. He captures that whole essence of a by-gone America that we here in great Britain can only marvel at. Just need to save the money now to go to see his work! This book is the next best thing....

We visited the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge MA - a lovely, interesting place in pleasant parkland. I saw this book in the shop, but thought it too heavy to travel with our suitcases already overloaded. So I was pleasantly surprised to find it available on Amazon. So pleased to have this reminder of our visit, with its many illustrations and also details about Rockwell's life and work.

Not what I expected, and not as good as others we have in our collection. We found many items just repeated from other publications.

I have loved Norman Rockwell's artwork for over 50 years. It shows the values our families and country stood for and maybe we could all use a little more of today. I have the book sitting on my coffee table and it is the perfect size. I read it cover to cover when I first received it. The pages are heavy and glossy. The prints are amazing in their detail. The author gives you some history to go along with the artwork such as why and when they were done, a little info on the models used, and tells you how he researched the book. This is a gorgeous book and a must have if you love Norman Rockwell.

Ich bin erst vor Kurzem bewußt auf die Bilder von Norman Rockwell gestoßen, obwohl ich bestimmt schon oft welche gesehen habe. Die meisten sind einfach großartig, teilweise so realistisch, daß man sie auch für Fotos halten könnte. Aber der eigentliche Reiz steckt in den oft witzigen Geschichten, die von den Bildern erzählt werden. Jedes stellt irgend eine ganz besondere Momentaufnahme dar, aus der einen die sie hervorrufende Situation geradezu anspringt. Meist sind es alltägliche Dinge, in denen man sich oder andere gar nicht so selten wiedererkennt. Dieses natürlich auch bebilderte Buch erzählt in englischer Sprache vom Maler und seinen bekanntesten Gemälden. Der Druck der Bilder ist nicht so toll, sie taugen nur als Illustration. Daher ein Stern weniger. Wer Interesse an Hintergründen hat, ist hier aber richtig. Ein sehr schönes Geschenk, sofern man Englisch spricht.

The quality of the illustrations could be much better. The colours are sometimes rather grainy and one comes away from it somewhat disappointed. Some of them look like they have been printed from low res images. If you are a Rockwell fan like me, I would suggest you give it a miss. This isn't the nice collector's edition it's pretending to be.
