Gates 31528 Standard Radiator Cap

I installed a new radiator on my truck and wanted a new cap to go with it just to avoid any issue. This standard cap fit perfect and has held up with no issues for almost 1000 miles now. Well worth the few bucks for the peace of mind.

This fit my 1985 Jeep CJ perfectly. The Jeep has a newer brass radiator that is the correct/stock size.

A radiator cap is a fairly important, yet simple part. It's purpose is two-fold, really. One, it seals off the radiator and doesn't allow coolant to escape unless design pressure is reached. In this case, 16PSI. It works well with no problems. Replacement for my old one with hardened seals.

I had all new hosed and belts and water pump so it only made sense to replace the cap

I have never had a problem with a gates product before, they are actually who I go to for aftermarket belt, pulley and cooling system parts.This product (Produced by Motorad) is the same part that even the auto part chains sell.The fit on my radiator was very loose compared to the original cap on my truck. Pressure testing the new cap it would only hold 8psi. Truck kept boiling coolant. Went today and picked up a cap from the Ram dealership for 4x the cost and it fits nice and tight and I’m not running hot now. Just buy the real part at least for these trucks. I’ve got no doubt this would probably work fine on some other vehicles.
