Dawnlands: A Novel

Great read!
I am so happy I came back to book three after all these years. It was wonderful and just so light hearting to read the last volume of these books.

Fine Historical Fiction
Far better than Book 2 and as appealing as Book 1, Dawnlands really sets the stage for the family's expansion. I heard the author wants to bring this generational saga up to the early twentieth century. Great. That means a fair amount of books to come. Anyway the characters were more fleshed out than in Book 2. Although still despicable, Livia doesn't seem to be just a stark caricature. And Ned is given a good story. Definitely one of the more likeable characters in the novels to date. And there is a touching end to the Alinor Reekie/James Avery love story. Let's welcome William and Mary and see where the story goes from here.

A nation divided, Catholics against protestants, rich against poor, drama and conflicts galore
The family trying to survive life in the 1600s is surrounded by the lies and deceptions of one evil woman who is a masterful control freak.

Spellbinding
Can't wait for this family saga to continue. Every character is compelling and comes to life, something only the great authors achieve. And Phillips Gregory is surely the best of the best.

Meh, Unsatisfying
Expected better. Tidelands was an excellent book. This one dwells on a lying, manipulative character that NEVER experiences consequences. Hard to believe and hard to stomach.

excellent!
Another great story! And book 3 of a great series! Alinor and her family are in 17th century England pursuing the intrigue of the palace while a England is on the brink of civil war. It all works out!

Great read - couldn't put it down
First of all - I've read just about every novel Philippa Gregory has written and loved them all! Even though this is the third book in a series you can enjoy this story without having read the first two books. Her characters are always well developed and she does copious amounts of research about the era she is writing about. Her storylines are exciting with lots of adventure and female lead characters. All of her books have been "I just couldn't put it down"!

Got this for my daughter — she loves the series
I’m starting with the first book but my daughter asked for this for Christmas — she can’t put the books down — it is a series and I think this is book 3?

More please!
This 3rd book of Gregory’s trilogy begs for a fourth historical fiction novel. Love the story and characters.

brilliant
History brought to life in an engaging and fascinating story of intrigue and humanity. I couldn’t put the book down and am bereft that it has ended. The characters are well rounded and believable, the story is gripping and the background historical details seem meticulously researched and the writing is first class,

Better Than Book 2
This third book in this series is better than the second one. The characters are presented as stronger than the previous one.
