A Positive Superhero: Growing Up with HIV

This was a wonderful book about a child living with HIV and how he is a superhero! This book is very kid-friendly with great illustrations. It is a helpful retelling of how James (the main character) lives and is impacted by HIV. One of my favorite quotes from the book was when James shares that "No one can get HIV from being my friend." Educating our children and all in our communities against the stigma of HIV is critical. Please read this today!

I bought this book after my middle schooler gave home freaked out about what she had learned about HIV in her health class. That made me realize I need to start educating my younger children earlier so that they would understand the truth about HIV.This book presents, in a simple and straightforward way, that a child cannot catch HIV from a friend. The illustrations are adorable. I highly recommend it!

This is a fantastic book to teach children and their parents the truth about HIV. There is still so much stigma around HIV and how it is contracted, that many positive people and the parents of positive little ones feel like they need to hide it out of fear. Great information about the truth.

This is a great story to read to children to help them understand what it is like to live with HIV. It is kid friendly and engaging with beautiful illustrations. We need to continue to fight the stigma of HIV and teach truth. This book is a great tool to do just that.

Our family loves this book! We had a hard time finding a children's book to explain living with HIV, and I'm so glad we came across this one. It's applicable to the different age levels and levels of understanding in our home.

As a therapist who has been working within the HIV community for over a decade, I'm happy to recommend this beautiful little book. It's good for teaching children about HIV regardless of status, and has a very clear message about the importance of medication adherence and the importance of not being afraid to have HIV positive people as friends.
