easy and fun for kids
i just got thisroot viewer today so i dont know how well the seeds will grow as well as the roots to view. me and my 7 year old son did this little project together and it was easy enough for him to do most of it on his own. it came in three different pieces to put together and all you really need is some common sense to know where everything goes, but the directions are very simple if needed also. it comes with everything you need, a sheet of cute stickers that have a garden vibe, the root viewer dome, a stand that drains excess water out, two packets of cilantro seeds, and two disks of soil... which swells to the perfect amount of soil after 30 min. in warm water to fill up your root viewer dome. this was the perfect little summer project for me and my son to enjoy.

So cool for young gardeners
This root viewer is awesome for young people interested in gardening and growing things. It was very simple to set it up get started. We were seeing sprouts in as little as two weeks and my son is beyond excited that he gets to watch as each plant grows! It was a project that I did help him with due to soaking the dirt, but for the most part he did most of it by himself.

Fun to watch the seeds grow!
I am an avid gardener and my parents were gardeners as well. My grandson loves working in the garden and having his own little space. Having the root viewer makes gardening even more special and I believe it will help to instill in him, how fun and rewarding growing your own food can be. One side of the root viewer has pictures on it and the other side is clear. In order to see the roots growing you have to plant the seeds on the clear side of the grow kit. Not an issue but it would be nicer if it was clear viewing on all sides.

A really cool idea and works very well.
I really like this, although the seeds they included didn't grow very well I have put different plants in since then and it's working really well.

Didn't work with provided "soil" that was dyed brown
The concept is great, but the "soil" was not real and the dye coming out of it daily was creeping us out. We waited 2 weeks and nothing sprouted. The water went straight through this thing, and looked like tea or coffee. We finally swapped it out for real dirt and bought new cilantro seeds. Things sprouted on day 7 this time. I recommend using real potting soil and fresher seeds.

Does not work!
Awful! Followed directions and nothing grew. Past return window also because we had to see if it grew. Do not buy!

SO COOL
Okay, so I definitely ordered this to do with my 4 year old, though it quickly became evident it was just as much for me as it was for him. I am pretty sure I like it more than my son does HAHA. But the product came packaged well, it was easy and fun to set up. My son loved all the stickers that came with it and had a blast decorating the container. My advice would be to let your little decorate the container before you put the stuff in it despite the instructions saying to do so after. But we followed the instructions, I placed the container up on my kitchen window ledge and within about 3 days we saw sprouts! The seeds grew very quickly and it was so cool to see the roots through the container and how they wrap around the bottom. It is easy to keep up on as it just needs a few squirts of water at a time. A second benefit of this project is that my son under supervision gets to practice using his scissors and "mowing" the grass, which he sure thinks is pretty cool
