Excellent read
Wow. What a great read. This story is very well written. It kept me guessing until the end. There were several suspects that it could have been. I was not expecting the ending.

Absolutely Remarkable Reading
I loved the relationship between Sharp and Tessa. The lovemaking was very explosive and so real. I think my husband benefited from my reading. I was still guessing who had done it. That says a lot when the book is so descriptive but you are guessing the perpetrators identity.

Exceptional plot
You never know what type of killer will turn up in Mary Burton's novels. The Dollmaker certainly fit the killer. Love to watch her untangle the plot till you see who the killer is.

More monsters
I’ve always enjoyed the mystery genre, but the trend of late is for many deaths, grotesque horrible deaths. I don’t know if it began on television of if that followed books like this. In a world as beautiful as the one we are blessed with I don’t think I will ever understand the need for people to create horrific monsters - some of whom may learn their trade, or be triggered by books like this. It is well written, a good story, I really liked Tessa, I didn’t like Sharp in the first book of this series and I liked him even less in this one until the last few pages. It’s a good read for the genre but I wish people would find better ways to spend their time on this beautiful blue dot in space than dreaming up ways for the only sentient species to mutilate each other. I gave it the stars for the story, but that does not lessen my distaste for the human heart which being capable of such great love still spends its time on the ugliest side of life, not that it doesn’t exist, only that it shouldn’t. What a waste of a an opportunity to love each other in life, and in literature. I know this is a living for people I admire, I just can’t help but wish they’d find a way to express that more than they do. The world would be a better place were we not so brutal with each other.

A creepy, chilling thrill ride.
Agent Dakota Sharp works homicide for the Virginia State Police Department. He chose this career after his half-sister Kara died from an apparent overdose of drugs. He was devastated by her loss and filled with questions nobody could answer. Kara never used drugs. Years later, while attending his step-father Roger's funeral, a private investigator approached Dakota stating he was hired by Roger to gather all the evidence surrounding Kara's death. Roger never believed Kara died the way the authorities claimed and his dying wish was to have Dakota re-examine all the information one last time. Dr. Tessa McGowan is a forensic pathologist and also the estranged wife of Dakota Sharp. She spent the last year working outside the country helping identify remains of American soldiers who went missing in Vietnam. She is ready to come home. She wants to reconnect with Dakota and save her marriage. She accepted a job in the Virginia State Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond which would force them to work together. She was best friends with his sister Kara in college and knew her death had a huge impact on Dakota but his unyielding determination to solve cases made her believe he was not committed to their marriage. After being apart and her work abroad, Tessa finally understands why Dakota becomes so obsessed in his work when trying to solve a homicide. She sees the human cost paid by victims and how important it is to bring justice to them and closure to their families. Agent Dakota Sharp has a new case. A woman's body has been found. However, the woman's face has been so mutilated she looks like a life-sized doll. He soon learns Tessa will be part of his team to help solve this case. Pretty soon, another woman has been found and also mutilated to look like a doll. As he starts to unwind the puzzle pieces of these homicides, he begins to fear there might be some kind of personal connection from his past with this psychopath committing these homicides. Worse, Tessa might be in the cross hairs of this killer. Can Dakota and Tessa unravel the mysteries of these killings to find out how they might be involved and can they solve the past before Tessa becomes a victim of THE DOLLMAKER. I loved this book. Mary Burton is an amazing author who creates an exciting roller coaster ride of suspense and mystery that you find yourself not being able to put the book down. THE DOLLMAKER, THE FIRGOTTEN FILES BOOK 2 was a chilling read and I enjoyed trying to figure out who and what is behind the actions taken by a psychopath. This book was given to me by the author in exchange for a fair review.

The Doll Maker by Mary Burton
I read three of the books in this series (Forgotten Files) and they were all pretty exciting and very well written. This book is about a killer who tattoos his victims to make them look like Victorian dolls. Spooky. All three books have a young and attractive heroine, who is pretty smart, falls in love with someone involved in the case (although she doesn't really want to) and after a hair-raising final scene where the young and attractive heroine nearly becomes a victim herself, there is a happy ending. Recommended.

A non stop thriller
This is the second book I've read and its a great read like the first great characters and a chilling story-line I've had some late nights reading this plenty of action and although I guessed the culprit I wasn't 100%until the last few chapters loved the ending and look forward to her next book she's certainly not disappointing
