Excellent reading
I’ve read a few books about football data, but this one I found to be the most compelling so far. I’m not an analyst, so I find it hard to get too excited about percentages and decimal points, but what I do find interesting however, is not so much how the data is calculated but how its been used to make real-life decisions in football, and what could be next, and in a similar vein to the equally great book ‘Expected Goals’ by Rory Smith, ‘How to Win the Premier League’ details plenty of evidence, some of which is very surprising. It’s an extremely well written and thought provoking book, and a revealing insight into the data revolution changing the beautiful game.

Interesting and accessible
Very insightful book which gives a real behind the scenes view if how data in football works beyond transfermarkt and fbref level statistics usually available to fans. It has also given me several useful ideas for exploring data use in my own management role and changed my way of thinking about results and form. Will challenge your preconceptions and keep you engaged all the way through.

Absolutely fantastic
It's taken a while but this is the book we needed. I've been following data in football for almost 30 years back to the old opta year books. Dr Graham has been there from the start, and it shows. A really compelling story that treads lightly on the heavy stuff while still explaining what works and why in a satisfying way. I was really underwhelmed by a couple of high profile books on this space so am delighted that this book is available and so good. If you're open minded and interested in football buy this book. You'll learn a lot. I'd give this more than 5 stars if I could.

Good introduction to data analysis in football, but not thorough enough
I will have to say I am not so impressed by the content of the book. I bought it to challenge my predisposition about using stats in making football decisions. My opinion stays the same. The way data is used to model football is naive. it reduces a multivariate problem down into a few (or single) variables problem. It is difficult to judge the use of stats in football decisions until after the fact, and even so, there is no easy proof of causation. This is not to say data cannot be used to steer decisions, it could be in principle, but the way it was shown in the book is unlikely to be.Although there are some good parts about the book, I disliked the parts where it was more history than education about data analysis techniques.Recommend to someone starting to learn about data science in football.

A whole new way of thinking about the beautiful game
This was a fantastic read from start to finish. It did help that I am a Liverpool supporter and so very interested in the background to the transfer decisions around the Rodgers - Klopp eras. I may not have been as hooked had this focused on Man United but who knows. Overall very enjoyable and I will be recommending it
