Updated 9-10-19.... not so heartily recommended!
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in teaching cildren about the fashions from this time period! Full of information about the clothing & on the last few pagesTom Tierney has compiled some excellent drawings of headwear (giving one the opportunity to get some practice in coloring faces), footwear, etc. What a great idea, which he has incorporated into a few of his fashions coloring books.I do have a couple of complaints: too much black ink on some pages - pictures are back to back. I would have welcomed more info on color choices that would have been available during that period. For the price, Dover Publications has done a wonderful job putting together Mr. Tierney's work. I do recommend his other collections, but would attempt to copy onto a better grade of paper. I say attempt because the image on the reverse will ghost through.Recommended mediums would be crayon, colored pencils, & chalk pastels. All wet mediums will bleed through the pages. All pages are non-perforated & double sided. The pages can be removed from the book with an utility or exacto knife for ease of placing in a binder. This is a typical Dover Publication coloring book & the drawings deserve much better paper.Recommended for children

Great value and excellently detailed images!
I bought this book for myself; having worked Renaissance Festivals for years, I have a strong interest in Tudor fashion. Represented are costumes from early Tudor years until late Tudor years, very well drawn and suitably detailed. Dover coloring books are excellent quality for the money, but be forewarned that the images are printed on both sides of the pages, so they're not suitable for markers or paints. I use colored pencils, and those work very well.

200 years of Fashion History
Nice drawings, I believe they were taken from portraits.

delightful, historical and educational
I bought this coloring book by Tom Tierney because of my 12 year old's delight in his art work. She has enjoyed the historical notes at the bottom of each page. She had several of his books in the past and was so pleased with them that she asked for more, even if it meant reordering the same coloring books. My seven-year-old granddaughter has also enjoyed them. The simple line drawings are easy to color. In several of the books, Tierney instructs the reader on the colors that would have been used in the fabrics; in others, he doesn't, allowing the child to use her imagination. I would heartily recommend this book for homeschoolers who want their children to understand fashions in the historical periods they are studying.

Great artwork for a history buff.
This is a beautifully done book of artwork.I am venturing into a new medium, colored pencils. These are great to help me to learn shading techniques while having a little fun. They also have helped to visualize what my ancestors might have dressed in.One more note, I bought these to work with a family member suffering from dementia/AD. She really enjoyed them as well.

Historically Correct
My pre-teen granddaughter loves art, fashion and the Renaissance Fair (for which I make her costumes) . This was a shoe-in as an extra Christmas gift. And I will be able to use it for reference material for the costumes I make. These are beautifully executed drawings, historically correct for the period.

Studying history through fashion.
We are studying fashion and styles during the Middle Ages through the Elizabethan era concurrently with our standard history curriculum. Seeing what people wore during that time in history helps to bring the people "to life" as we study about them. I have two daughters, age 12 and 10. We ordered three Dover Fashion Coloring Books which overlap the time span we are covering. All of the Dover books are good quality, with just enough info along with the pictures to be insightful but not laboriously boring. Would recommend!

Not for kids
This is a really great, historical coloring book. I bought it for my niece because she loves fashion, coloring, and history (it seemed like a no brainer). I'm still going to give her the book for the information and she can color to the best of her ability, but this is not something I would buy again for anyone under 16 because of the minuscule details and small words. That said, it's a nice book. It's very detailed and it introduces a lot of important historical figures. I would recommend this, just for older humans.

Good for adults and older children
This is a lovely book with many detailed well illustrated pictures - brilliant for adults or older children as the details are quite small. Interesting and informative descriptions on each page of the costumes and how they were worn. I've ordered myself 3 more in the series and am sending one of them to a colouring f.book pal in Indonesia. I'm sure she will enjoy as much as me

Great
I loved the clothing in this book as I am a huge Tudor Fan. I would recommend you put something between the pages before you start to colour otherwise the colour bleeds through. Would buy the Tom Tierney books again.

Another fantastic book from Dover
Another fantastic book from Dover. I have great joy in painting these and learning about the history of fashion. The only thing I didn't like about it is that as much as Tom Tierney is very good artistically, the dark or black parts are already coloured in black, or the area where you darken is crossed with lines and is very dark, so shading for yourself you cannot do. That is the only downfall. Tom Tierney or Dover should not blacken the black parts nor use dark lines for the darker shading as it ruins the picture. The pictures are both sides of the paper. The paper is good quality, though I have found that the colours will just run or smear on the next page's picture. I have not used paints, I have used F.Castell Polychromos, and limited Derwent Inktense because of the smearing. I use other pencils also, but it still smears. I have had to staple plain paper on one side of the page so the colours don't smear onto the next picture. I have a number of Tom Tierney books now and they are all the same which is something Dover should look at.
