The Royal Ballet: The Collection [DVD]

I bought this as a Christmas Present for an 80 year old former Royal Swedish Ballet Prima Ballerina.. This is the only level of Ballet that I’d dare buy for her. Not only does the dancing really impress her but the memories of dancing some of these roles has taken years off her. She and her husband love the music too.So, all round, you pay a lot of money for this collection but you would have to, you really get your money’s worth. Performances and Music are brilliant I’m reliably informed.

Covid lockdown prevented my favourite outings to the ballet so I purchased the box set from the ROH and also treated myself to a bigger TV to see them to best advantage. I wasn't disappointed and have spent many hours entranced by the performances. Can't wait to share these with friends and a bottle of fizz when times permit.

I have only watched two of these ballets so far, Giselle and La Bayadere, and both are truly fabulous. Excellent dancing, costumes, and staging. They are recorded live which I think really helps make the performances very compelling and top-notch. I am looking forward to watching the remainder of the ballets and to repeat watchings in the future. The upfront expense is going to be a very worthwhile investment.

Absolutely wonderful set bought it for my partner and she ended up staying up all night watching it. Really wonderful performances. Everything top notch. I began by buying her individual D.V.D'S of the different Ballets, but I realised it would cost too much, Saw this and wished I'd Seen it earlier Everything for the Ballet lover. *****

I could go on about this all day, but in short if you love going to the ballet then this is a DVD collection you must own. It works out cheaper than buying individual DVD' s. It contains performances by some of the world's best prima ballerinas. What more could you ask for?

Wonderful, Wonderful. Box is Wonderful, cd cases Wonderful. The Ballets are Wonderful Music is high quality and (you guessed it) Wonderful.

This is a wonderful collection. The only reservation I have is the Swan Lake which is the curious Dowell production which I dislike: fortunately it has been discontinued and a new production is being premiered in June 2017.

Fantastic collection-a variety of 'white' ballets and 'comic' ballets. Well known ballets and less well known - just love the whole collection

I never intended to spend $100+ on a collection of ballets. When I asked my wife for this for Christmas, I think she was in shock. I'm just not known to be a ballet connoisseur (though I have enjoyed several of these ballets in St. Petersburg, Russia in the 1990s... nothing like having a real children's choir come and sing during the Nutcracker!).Originally, I just wanted a nice version of The Nutcracker on Blu-ray. After reading many reviews and even watching a few clips on-line, I planned on getting the Royal Ballet version. But then I realized that, for a little more money, I could buy three ballets; The Nutcracker was part of the  Tchaikovsky Collection - featuring The Royal Ballet [Blu-ray ], so this was my new first choice.But then, somehow, I discovered I could have these three Tchaikovsky ballets AND many others, for a bit more money. Now I have this collection, and love it.The dancing, costumes, scenery, and correography are excellent. And, from a technical perspectice, the Blu-ray image quality and the cinematography (camera angles/framing) are also delightful to watch on these 15 Blu-ray discs.The packaging also is handsomely designed, and is of high quality. A few ballets share a single disc, but most ballets get their own individual discs and cardboard cases. A guidebook is also included, each with helpful descriptions of the story, act by act. For $100, it's a bargain. For $150, it's harder to swallow, but honestly still worth the price. Tchaikovsky Collection - featuring The Royal Ballet [Blu-ray

Me hubiera gustado que cada ballet fuera con sus carátulas originales y no grises sin fotos y que hubiera habido algún ballet más bailado por Polunin. Por ejemplo Manon que recibió fantásticas críticas por su perfecto De Grieux hubiera estado fenomenal
