spectacular and lovely
When the Moon Hatched is an incredibly unique and rich story. The glossary of terms is delightful and so detailed, especially following such interesting and thoughtful world building. There are dragons (and more otherworldly creatures), multifaceted characters and exciting plot points that had me in a chokehold. The emotional depth and writing of this story cannot be praised enough. I laughed, I cried (hard and at 2:00am) and cheered. Satisfying, thrilling and keeps you on your toes for the next book. SO MANY CLIFFHANGERS! I truly went somewhere else while reading this book and it was so enjoyable. The ROMANCE. This book is packed with delicious banter and scenes that had me kicking my feet like a little girl! Raeve, the FMC, has my heart completely and I wanted nothing more than to hug her throughout the story. She’s fierce, brave and incredibly loving of those she cares for. Kaan may be the most gentle and loving MMC I’ve come across in all the stories I’ve read. There is tension, gentleness, and passion. Tender moments in the rain and a masquerade ball are all I’ll say…The diary entries that take you back in time will have you guessing plot to come, and really enrich the overall story. This book leaves one with the resounding feeling that we all deserve incredible and caring love despite the trauma and baggage we may carry. But we must work through it to accept that great love. BRAVO, Sarah A. Parker! I eagerly await the next chapter.

super entertaining but few flaws
Really entertaining read. Definitely enjoyed the world and the characters and the plot was interesting. I do have a few complaints thought. I wish that we could have seen more growth and development from the main character, in 700 pages she never once changes her goal or her mindset, it got very frustrating. Also the writing seemed too be too poetic for its own good, a lot of stuff just ended up being confusing because of the authors word choice and sentence flow. Lastly, the world was cool, but the change in the words for day/night/month/year seemed so unnecessary and out of place. Oh and the random use of French, and other unknown languages that were never translated. But definitely looking forward to the next book, I have high hopes that it can be redeemed

Beautiful story, couldn't stop reading.
This book was a journey. I don't even know if I can summarize it, but it was beautifully written and full of powerful emotions. Our FL is strong, powerful, but willfully ignorant. She has suffered many losses, and doesn't let herself get close to others as a result. While she does her best to maintain a strict boundary, she can't help but continue to care for people, even if she shows it through extreme violence. Our ML is patient, kind, and only has eyes for our FL. As the story unfolds, secrets, memories, and the past become more clear, though our FL continues to ignore it in self-preservation.The world building definitely took a bit to get used to, as there aren't many parallels to the one we live in. The glossary at the front of the book is very helpful. Once things started to click, it did become easier, just took some getting used to.Overall, this book is full of loss, love, heartbreak, revelations, and magic. Beautiful story. It's a long book, but worth the read!

Excellent world building, epic FMCs, complex morally grey characters
Rating: 4.5/5*When the Moon Hatched is filled with beauty, heartbreak and complex, well-rounded, morally grey characters. This book started out somewhat slow but grew increasingly compelling until the devastating ending.Raeve's (the FMC's) inner strength and her efforts to do right in the world despite the absurd trauma it throws at her are impressive. Raeve is also an impressively stabby and badass character who reads maturely. She is flawed, but her flaws make sense in the context of her character, which makes her all the more fun to read. Kaan (the MMC) is an adorable and deadly cinnamon roll. The other characters are just as intriguing.Other things to enjoy in this delight of a book include spectacular world-building, which admittedly takes a little getting used to but is robust enough to be worth the effort, an entertainingly witty tone, multiple badass female characters, DRAGONS and fae with elemental magic. If you liked Throne of Glass, Slaying the Vampire Conqueror, Priory of the Orange Tree, Heavenly Bodies, Daughter of the Drowned Empire and other such fatasy/romantasy classics, this is definitely for you.

Swoon - cry - laugh… this book has it all
Sarah A Parker has become an automatic read author for me. The way she sucks you into a story and into the characters world and feelings is on another level. The writing is so rich and lush; it sometimes feels like poetry. What you need to know about ‘When the moon hatched’ is that this book starts out with a 20 page glossary, which describes the world, gods, beasts, people… you can decide not to read it or you can. I skimmed over it, so I knew in a nutshell what most things were. I like it better to go back at the end - which is weird I know but this just makes more sense to me.This world felt so lavish, so well build. You truly felt like it has already existed for thousands of phases. Our FMC Reave is a fighter with a closed off heart. You get tossed into her daily life, her occupation as assassin when she encounters a stranger who feels weirdly familiar- our MMC Kaan is dark, broody with a sense of humour. Their banter is chef’s kiss. Oh did I mention Kaan owns a dragon and that this dragon almost swallows our FMC… if this does not make you want to read this book I don’t know what will!?The story comes together perfectly. Even though the book ends on a major cliffhanger, you feel as if you can live with it since you got a lot of information right before the end.Don’t get me wrong, I still have sooo many questions and I really want to see where Sarah will take these characters. I do think pain will be involved and it will be messy especially for our FMC. I cannot wait for the second book - I need more of this world right now!If I could I would give this book a million ✨

ok I need the second book ASAP
The way this was written is brilliant in my opinion. It’s kind of confusing at first but once you start to get a grasp on things and it all clicks it’s SO GOOD. I loved the world building, the characters, the MMC is everything you could want !!! And the FMC is a badass independent woman who is a little frustrating at times. The spice spiced, though there’s not much of it it was written so perfectly !!!

Very strong start to a series. Interesting characters, well thought out world, exciting story line. I also love the different languages being used throughout the story!

A breath of fresh (shade-cold) air!
Loved the mesmerizing world of this story! It takes the usual fantasy tropes of elemental powers and varieties of dragons and creates something unique and pleasurable, vicious and brutal! As you read through the chapters, layer by layer of revelations, dealt out in good pacing, show the scale and scope of this tale! Can’t wait for the next book!
