Based on A. J. Cronin's novella, Country Doctor, the much-loved series centres on a general medical practice in the fictional Scottish town of Tannochbrae during the late 1920s. The key characters include the youthful and forward-looking Dr. Alan Finlay, his senior medical partner, the traditional but highly pragmatic Dr. Angus Cameron, and their unflappable and devoted housekeeper, Janet MacPherson. Soon after it premiered in 1962, Dr. Finlay's Casebook became one of the cornerstones of BBC drama, and it never shied away from controversial issues such as abortion and poverty. In this dramatic episode, Dr. Finlay is left exhausted after a lengthy flu epidemic. When he requests a holiday, his mentor and boss Dr. Cameron expresses his belief that a break from work is a sign of questionable dedication. Long hours running the surgery and the village's challenging patients force Finlay to consider his future. This episode has not been seen for over 50 years and was thought to be lost forever. It was miraculously found by Kaleidoscope Television and restored by the Doctor Who restoration team.

Yes. I am thrilled to discover this series. I wasn't around when it first started. Has been good fun to watch and keep me entertained in the current world situation.

Older Doctor Finlay Fans will snap this up! More please!
Got this today. I was only one when this episode was first aired, but I do remember watching Bill Simpson, Andrew Cruikshank. and Barbara Mullen with my parents. Have already got all the surviving episodes from Series 1-8 inclusive, so this is an absolute bonus to obtain one which was thought lost. and then found after 50 years! This is one of the missing episodes from the 2nd Series, and is not on the Dr Finlay's Casebook Series 2 DVD!The episode lasts 52 minutes, and the picture quality is very clear. The episode is in b/w, but this does not detract from the enjoyment of watching it. There are also English Subtitles available. There is also a small section which gives examples of restoration of film.I won't do spoilers, but the episode begins with Finlay and Cameron having heated discussions over Finlay's due leave. Finlay is exhausted, and wants and needs a break! One will have to watch it to find out what happens!
