Playing chess with my grandson is an absolute pleasure, but I was having difficulty playing on his board with his small chess pieces. I was having trouble moving the pieces without knocking an adjacent piece and my beautiful granddaughter would often knock the table we were playing on causing several pieces to move. A quick bit of searching on Amazon and I found this excellent board and playing pieces. The board has horizontal and vertical markings enabling me to explain various chess strategies and the pieces are large with a magnetic base which prevents any accidental displacement of pieces. They look and feel great. The board also doubles as a chess box and the pieces fit securely in their designated spot. Folding in half makes this a perfect chess set to carry with me when visiting my grandson, and the pieces don’t rattle around as they do in a wooden box. Overall I think this to be an excellent chess board and playing pieces with the addition of an extra white and black queen. Really pleased with my purchase and recommend this product.

The chess set is of good quality. The interior allows all pieces to stay in position when the case is carried around. Supplied with warranty card, the rules of chess and a postcard.

Great Chess set really is

It's a decent sized board and it's quite nice quality. The pieces are good, could be a little bigger, and the rucks look a bit odd. But otherwise myself and my son are enjoying playing in it.

I bought this chess set as a gift for a ten-year-old boy who is only just learning the game. It reminded me of my own first set and, on receipt, does not disappoint. I think it’s good value for money and a real looker. I also like the fact that the chess pieces fit into their individual foam casing when not in use, thereby preventing them from clattering around in the box whilst closed and in transit. My reason for deducting one star and only awarding four stars in my rating is, that unfortunately, there is one small but very noticeable flaw on the board (see photo) which, however, isn’t reason enough to ask for an exchange of the item this close to Christmas. Just to note one thing: I’m not experienced enough a chess player to understand why this set should include two additional queens and was going to remove these so as not to confuse my friend’s son who will be the recipient of my gift. Thankfully, before doing so, I consulted Dr Google who taught me the reason for inclusion of those two extra chess pieces (pawn promotion). I’ll now simply print out that explanation and add it to the boxed set.
