Reliable and easy-to-use mechanical timer.
This HBN 24-hour immersion heater timer works exactly as expected and is very straightforward to set up. The mechanical segments are easy to adjust, allowing precise control over on/off times, which is useful for managing energy usage. The unit feels solid and well built, and the waterproof cover is a helpful feature for added protection in utility or boiler areas. Once configured, the timer operates consistently and switches the load reliably. Overall, a dependable and practical timer switch that helps automate heating schedules and improve energy efficiency. Good value and suitable for everyday household use.

Inexpensive Timer - works well once installed.
This timer was already inexpensive before the Black Friday sale brought the price down to just over £10 - very good value. The format is a fairly conventional analogue/mechanical timer - simple to set-up or re-set, especially after a power cut. The instructions are fairly clear, with a good wiring diagram. There are 2 reasons I have only given a 4 star rating - first, as others have commented, the instructions have the "time on" set by pushing the timer segments inwards - they need to be pushed outwards - fairly easily sorted, with a bit of experimentation. Secondly, a less easily solved and more annoying issue - the 2 screws which secure the unit to its mounting plate, need to be removed so as to attach the timer to a pattress or back box. These screws are buried at the bottom of deep recesses at 2 of the units corners, and are accessed from the front. Unscrewing these cross-head type screws was for me a major annoyance. The access only allows for a narrow screwdriver shaft and the screws seem to have been inserted over enthusiastically with a powerful mechanical driver. This meant the "cross notch" in the screw head was burred, which prevented ANY purchase with a typical cross head or Phillips screwdriver. The entire unit cannot be properly mounted without the removal of these screws ! I finally resorted to drilling them out and inserting fresh self-tapping screws. Once the unit could be separated, and thus correctly mounted, the remaining installation was straightforward, and to date the timer seems to be working fine. This unscrewing problem may be a "one-off", but it could have resulted in the return of what is basically a strongly made and good value unit.

Switch and clock failed
This timer was purchased within the last year, it worked perfectly controlling a fan up until it was switched off during the summer. When I switched it back on with the heating all seemed well until I noticed the fan was running at 3.00am but not at the time set at 8.00am. I assumed that I had not set the time correctly but after resetting it the fan still did not switch on. On inspection I found that the clock had not moved and the switch was not working even when the timing wheel was turned manually. It clicked when it reached the time to turn on but did not turn the fan on, when it reached the time to turn the fan off it did not click at all. Very disappointing, but I guess I got what I paid for I hope that the HBN smart switch I have just purchased to replace it survives a lot longer than the old mechanical design!!!!!

Good value and it works
Good value. Easy to fit, I replaced a switch on an existing wall box, and it's now controlling the immersion heater. There is an error in the user guide about which way the pins move to switch your appliance on. (don't fit this yourself unless you know what you are doing and make sure the termination screws are tight!)

Inexpensive but disappointing.
Inexpensive but disappointing. Instructions a bit unclear ('push in the segments ...'), need micro fingers for settings, etc. Clock stops if power cut, not easy to reset. Wish I'd gone for a digital model for a few more ££.
