my favourite coffee maker
this is my absolute favourite coffee maker – and believe me, i've tried a lot!the coverage of the spray is near-perfect, as there are 7 miniature nozzles circling the outside with the larger central nozzle as well. the "flavour" valve on the top of the device adjusts the flow to these nozzles, if you prefer something with less full extraction. (i leave mine on maximum flavour all the time). it's got the best spread out of any other machine i've used.the carafe is a wonderfully thoughtful design, it's just so much more ergonomic to use compared to similar other carafes. it fits in so snugly in the body as well, there's no huge gap around the outside. holding the lid up or keeping it closed is easily done with your thumb, with no spring-loaded mechanism to fight against. there are capacity markings marked on the jug handle as well as on the tank in the actual device.speaking of the coffee maker's tank, it's semi-transparent and very easy to see into. especially once you open the coffee compartment, you can get an unbroken view across the entire back. in addition, the lid lifts easily. but there's also a small ventilation hole in the top back of the tank, removing the need to leave the lid open to prevent weird musty odours from forming. the same can be said about the coffee compartment, so long as you remove the coffee grounds themselves, it will dry without having to be left open to air-out. so it looks more elegant, for sure.the timer function is nice, although to be honest i hardly use it. i'm fussy about the taste of my coffee, and the flavour just degrades a bit too much being left out overnight for the timer to go off. so i prefer to just make coffee first thing in the morning myself instead of setting a timer. this reduces the time that the coffee "stews" on the hotplate, too. so all in all, i probably could've got the more basic model without the timer, but i like that it has the little clock on it even if i don't use it for anything.being able to adjust how long the keep-warm timer runs for is wonderful. not just for lengthening the time to 60 minutes for those who like it kept hot a long time, but also reducing it to 20 minutes for those of us who prefer to avoid "stewing" their coffee.the water hardness reminder i'm sure would be useful, but i live in an area with exceedingly soft water (actually 1000x less than the minimum setting in the coffee maker), and i've yet to see any reminder about descaling even after a year of daily use. i did however used to live in a highly hard water area so i can absolutely imagine the usefulness. it's just not something i get use out of anymore, and it's certainly not a sophisticated sensor or anything like some people think – it just keeps track of how many cycles it's ran and reminds you at a pre-programmed time interval.the mechanism for filling the coffee is wonderful. the coffee compartment swings out cleanly, and you can even lift the basket out from there to wash it all in the dishwasher and get everything sparkling clean at 60º. it's super easy to get a good look at the coffee as you're putting it in, and then once you're done you simply swing it closed again. many other coffee makers that i've used had the coffee compartment underneath a single flip-top lid that also accesses the water tank. that is a much worse design than this one, which is a joy to use.so yes, all in all, the ergonomics of this device are amazing, and well-worth the extra price. in addition, the coffee is extremely well-brewed and flavourful without needless bubbles or aeration during the brewing which might spoil the taste. it's about as close as you can get to an automated pourover coffee. the fashion of the piece is great as well. understated cool with the black and the chrome and the glass.as i just mentioned, i've used this for almost a year now, and it's still going strong – not given up the ghost like some cheaper units. i've wasted far more money than this cost just searching other cheaper units – i wish i had just gone straight to this unit. it's not fancy overkill, but it's solidly made and built to last instead of churned out at a minimum cost. it feels really nice to use, it's sturdy and strong in day to day use, it's incredibly easy to clean, and it's just a joy to use.highly recommended.

Works a treat, reliable, delicious coffee
Besides the great design that is sturdy and attractive, this thing brews a good cup of coffee and you actually can adjust intensity- its not just a gimmick! It pours cleanly and the stop drip function works so you can get a cup mid-brew, if you need to. Its just the right temperature every time and its quick! You wake up to good aroma and a pot of good coffee you can rely on- no grounds, no nonsense. Easy to clean and even came with a sample of cleaner for the machine. This coffee machine is worth every penny so far. Just got it so I may update but I hope not because right now its one of the best machines I've had, if not the very best. So good to have a reliable, quality machine! I rely on this little guy to get me going and jump start my busy days as a working mother! Hooray for Melitta.

Very easy to set up and use
After 20 years I have had to replace my old coffee machine as I dropped tins on it and it broke!.This is so much faster than the old one, the coffee is ready before I have finished getting the breakfast ready, so no more waiting for the coffee. It was easy to set up, adjusting the setting for water hardness to 1, as we use bottled water in this and the kettle to avoid limescale, and reducing the time the hotplate stays active as always drink the coffee as soon as its brewed.Coffee is very hot and has a cleaner less harsh / bitter taste than my old machine (even with the aroma dial set to strong). It is easy to fill with coffee and water and will happily do just one mug.I do find I need to dry the water container out with a piece of kitchen paper after, but that is probably just me being over fussy about not leaving any residual dampness in the reservoir. The pot and coffee filter / container are easy to clean and he pot pours without any drips.Haven't used the timer function, but it is easy to set upOnly had it a few days, but so far am very happy.

Great Machine - comes with a European Plug though.
Having used a French press coffee maker for years I had been giving consideration to buying a 'pod' machine. I researched them and had reduced my choice to a several different machines. However, the more I tasted coffee made in them I was disappointed. The pod machines tended to pour coffee a cooler temperature than was useful, the strongest flavoured pods were always weak and lacked body, and then there's the waste. This brought me to more traditional coffee makers, and having seen Melitta machines while visiting Germany I thought the brand was worth exploring. I eventually ordered this machine and cannot fault it for the price point. Used with the paper filters it produces a good fresh tasting coffee. The timer feature is very useful for rushed morning coffee, plus you wake up to the smell of it brewing. There is an option to dial in the flavour strength of your preference, and if used in conjunction with the different filter types made by Melitta, you hit the sweet spot of taste. A bonus is that the parts you use most are dishwasher safe.My only gripe with the machine was that it came with a European plug (it is a German brand), so its worth ordering with and adapter unless you're willing to switch the plug type over.

This may be the best coffee machine for under £100
Verdict: This may be the best coffee machine for under £100. Great built quality. Consistently good tasting coffee which is easy to make in the morning.Things I look for in a coffee machine in the order of preference:1. Consistency - Taste and viscosity of the coffee2. Ease of use (load and clean)3. Temperature of the coffee4. Cost5. Built QualityPros: Once you get the intensity level and the amount of coffee powder right, the machine makes the exact same coffee every single day. This is absolutely critical for me and here the product excels. In all the coffee is ready for 3 cups in under 5 mins clean-load-brew, again an absolute ease. I dont use preset options and for me this machine is a one button tool. Which again is a great benefit. Afterall, all you need is a button. Not a fan of complex brewing settings or of changing my coffee type regularly.Cons: Well, it is not a versatile machine. All you get is simple black coffee to kick start your day. If you prefer to make multiple coffee types or even espresso, you'll need to look elsewhere. The parts do feel overly plastic, but have not given way yet and dont look like they will unless I fight with it.
