Very happy purchase.
Brilliant! I bought this last week and absolutely love it! I like the tunes..they're not too hard and fun to play and my mum and I have been happily playing the duets together and then when she had enough I played alongside the Cd for ages! Really happy with this purchase.

Good collection
I've been looking around at music for learning folk cello tunes for some time and this is the 3rd book I've bought. I was inspired by the baseline part options and wanted some Irish music as well as the Scottish tunes I already have. It was also important to have a CD to play with. Overall I'm pleased with it.There's a reasonable selection of tunes, importantly with varied degrees of difficulty so you can find something to play quite quickly (a few in first and position) and if you're intermediate level some also to test your mettle. To my delight there's no nonsense with the tenor clef making it a lot easier to read than some books I have, though there are still plenty of high notes which would be easy for a fiddle e string, but is more tricky on a cello.I like Renata Bratt's fingering and notes throughout, interspersed with the pieces and just where you need them. The tunes are organised in several ways to find by either degree of difficulty, type of tune (airs, jigs, etc.) or sets that fit well together. A lot of thought has gone into accessibility. I was also keen to learn the important chop and groove technique, which is set out here as an extra to the melody so can be played as duets. A shame this isn't demonstrated separately on the CD though. I was also surprised that there is no tempo figure or descriptor for setting a metronome as standard. It is possible to work out from the CD but would have been useful.I found the CD ok, with well-played pieces technique-wise, but was disappointed at how the tracks have been edited. Some tunes end a bit abruptly, even if correct according to the notation, there's an odd missing Da Capo repeat, and there would be a natural slowing or change of emphasis at the end of the piece to denote the end, but this doesn't always happen, as if the piece has been chopped off slightly short not at its proper end. I also found there isn't enough silence, a second or so needed before the next piece, so you've hardly time to fling down your bow and grab the remote to stop, pause, or turn the page if you are using the CD as intended for learning. I don't so much enjoy just listening to the CD for pleasure and familiarisation with the tunes as I have with other learning CDs: the weird editing is mildly niggling when you play tracks over and over to learn. The book and CD are still definitely worth buying, however, but if I was the author/publisher I'd be re-recording or re-editing the CD to fix the unneccessary flaws in an otherwise good collection.

No more back up cello with this book!
So many fine tunes! Usually the fiddles have all the fun, but with this collection the cello moves to center stage. Playing at speed would be a challenge for a beginner, but the tunes are worth learning.

Schöner Rhythmus
Sehr schöne Cello Begleitung zu gängigen Session Tunes. Es gibt den Fiddletunes den richtigen Groove. Schon arrangiert. Sehr gelungen.
