Two reasons I need this, the first was that the chair I have is great however it just doesn't go up high enough for my desk. It has a 7" lift at present so I felt a 9" one would give that extra height. The other reason is that my current one just seemed to drop without reason every now and then, it was never high enough so it dropping lower was no good.The unit arrived far quicker than I expected, only took a couple of days. After assaulting said chair with a hammer and other associated (anything to hand) tools I eventually popped the old one out and the new one just dropped in.What a difference though, it actually goes far higher now than is needed but stays in place at the right height. Over the moon basically :)

It works fine as far as elevating the chair up and down goes. However, besides elevating the chair, there is normally some settlement whenever I sit in the chair - the cylinder compresses and when I stand up the cylinder decompresses. This is normal. That movement should be smooth but it judders. Each time I sit down it judders and each time I stand up it judders so it's going back. I've bought a replacement from another company and there's still a bit of a judder there but it's nowhere near as bad. Something to watch out for.

Needed a new gas strut for a John Lewis office chair where the old one had lost all lift and kept collapsing. Bought this, and picked a two inch longer one to raise the seat a bit. getting the old one out of the base was a bit of a job, but a few thwacks with a lump hammer on a big piece of wood against the base.Update about a year later. This let go with a loud bang, where the piston punched though damaging the amtico floor. I bought a different make for its replacement. Wouldn’t buy this one again. The piston mount is too weak to support any substantial weight.

Turns a sad and depressed chair into an upstanding bit of furniture. I would say it is simple to replace, providing you are actually able to dismantle the old one. I failed to get the silver cylinder to detach from the tilt mechanism as it was welded in there from years of compression. I eventually bought a replacement tilt mechanism, as well.

This is the first time I've attempted to replace a gas lift on an office chair. Removing the old one was a nightmare, but there are videos on You tube that explain how to do it. The product itself seemed fine. It arrived on time and was well packed. It fitted my chair perfectly. However, within 4 hours of use the strut failed and the chair began to sink. Have requested a refund and ordered replacement from other supplier.
