Exactly as advertised
I read reviews of several pillows and this one was my first to buy. I have used it for about 6 weeks now and its great. I read reviews mentioning this pillow being more ideal for larger people, ex: men over 6foot. I can see why a person might say that, but I dont think its really an issue for a shorter person. The head cradle is in the center of the pillow as it should be and the back of the head doesnt need to nestle inbetween all available space to give neck/head support. Also, I've read a few mentions that this pillow cannot be molded to shape. Precisely. It cannot and why you want it to? After at least a month of daily use, my pillow is firm, supportive but comfortable. On a personal note, I suffer from a lower back issue that has over many many years turned into a pinched nerve in my neck. The frequency of flare ups of throbbing pain has reduced alongside heating pad, neck traction, exercises and making adjustments in chairs and seats that I frequent. What I'm getting at is that this pillow is GREAT as an assist but will not solve problems all on its own. Another pro to this is that with your head at a much lower incline than what most Americans are probably used to, breathing is easier in the night which has led to better sleep. For real, I have been sleeping deeper. The incline still feels unnatural, but a traditional pillow is pushing a spine out alignment all night. Ouch. Now the cons..there isnt many and I reckon the makers couldnt solve them. In my experience, I am a mouth breather in my sleep, not a snorer so I wake up with cotton mouth since switching. Secondly, you really are limited to sleeping either on your back or tilted to one side, maybe even on your side entirely. Absolutely no comfortable belly sleeping. Then again, if you're searching for a pillow to help with neck issues, its extremely counterproductive to sleep on your stomach. Fact, stomach sleeping causes your neck to be torqued one way or the other for hours at a time. "I slept wrong" is usually a belly sleeper. #guilty Thats it. Neck issues? Just had surgery? Ladies and gentlemen, this pillow is your new favorite. Would buy again.

Good quality pillow, helped me retrain myself to sleep in a healthier position
I ordered this pillow a few months ago and waited until I really used it a lot in order to review it properly. As a background: I suffer from TMJ Disorder and I clench (not grind) my teeth at night. I cannot stand those nasty mouth trays that you're supposed to sleep in and I refuse to use them. Also, I sleep on my stomach and have anxiety... The mix of all these things have resulted in chronic headaches of every variety, including ocular migraines - which are terrifying, but I digress. I found myself at the chiropractor's office on a regular basis getting my tense jaw and neck muscles worked on. Mostly because the tension headaches became almost debilitating. She recommended a cervical pillow and that's why I ordered this one. First things first, the pillow itself: it arrived as promised, is made of decent materials, doesn't smell weird or anything, and is a fairly normal-ish pillow, besides the fact that the middle of it is sunken in. And it's a little firmer than I'm used to. So color me unimpressed when I first got it. And then came the test: the first night I slept on it, I was obviously a little discombobulated... Changing a pillow is a lot like driving someone else's car for the first time - you know it's technically the same thing, but things just feel a little ... off. There isn't that comfort zone. But fast forward a few nights later and, lo and behold, the damn thing got me out of sleeping in this funky position I have slept in for YEARS. The pressure was off my jaw and my neck was aligned all night so I woke up with NO TENSION HEADACHES for the first time in years. No joke, this really helped. Of course I was still seeing my chiropractor and getting adjusted, but I had been doing that before too and still getting headaches. So it's been a few months since I had the pillow and I stopped using it recently... WAIT WHAT?! Why, you ask, did I stop using it if it worked? Because I'm a creature of habit and I love my mushy marshmallow-y pillows. I know they're terrible for me but I love them. However, the weirdest thing is, I guess I got used to not sleeping in the weird positions I had been sleeping in for years. Because I no longer wake up with tension headaches and I'm not popping Advil like a junkie anymore. So the pillow was great if only for the fact that it helped me re-train myself to sleep like a normal person and as a result, my tension headaches disappeared. I quit the chiropractor because it was expensive, but I do hold on to this pillow dearly (it's safely tucked in my closet) and I do believe that this pillow is worth a try if you suffer from anything similar to what I just shared.

HATED THIS PILLOW
I HATED this pillow!!!!!!!!!!! The review I read on here were so good, so I figured oh i'll give this a shot I'm desperate. I'm a side sleeper. I hate sleeping on my back. I toss and turn all night. So all of my problems are what this pillow is supposed to help with. Well I got this pillow and was eagerly excited to try it out that night. My pillow was firm. I saw there were people on here who said the pillow wasn't firm. I don't know if they got a defective one or not? So I slept with my pillow that night and GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!!!! It was like my head was resting on cinder blocks all night. I tossed and turned so damn much. I got the worst sleep of my life!! My neck hurt me so freaking bad the next morning I almost called off from work cause the pain was insane! I threw it off my bed and I shipped it right back the following day. I do NOT recommend this pillow. If I could give NO stars I would. Maybe it will work for some people, but for me it was a big, fat, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ridiculously hard...but it can be fixed!
The general design of this product is exactly what I was looking for. I never understood why pillows are so thick when all that does is push your head forward when you sleep. I have been a back sleeper for a long time and couldn't ever find a pillow that didnt tilt my head down constantly, resulting in years of neck pain and frequent morning headaches. When I bought this, I was disappointed to find I almost had the opposite problem because it was SO. HARD. My neck had too much support and not enough softness, so after the first night, I woke up with a whole different kind of neck pain. I ended up getting my sewing kit, tearing open a corner, and removing about 1/3 of the stuffing, which is VERY densely packed. I reshaped it, sewed it back up really quick and ta-da...it's now absolutely perfect. My neck pain and headaches have gotten better and I sleep through the whole night. I sleep on my side occasionally and it's comfortable for that as well. The only reason I have it 4 stars is just because I had to alter it a bit. It was easy to do so if you are having trouble finding a pillow like this that doesn't feel like it's filled with concrete and bricks, just get a little creative. :)

Good general design, but made for a larger person than me
I'm a small-boned 5'5", 118 lb female. This pillow's design is what I need, but it is too large for me. The hump that goes under my neck is too large. The side-sleeping support hump was also too high for me for about a week. It compressed down a little, however. PROS: The pillow has: (1) Firm neck support in the center, allowing the neck to rest comfortably; (2) An indentation in the middle of the pillow to allow my head to rest in a level position when I'm sleeping on my back, not cocked forward like it does with regular pillows. This position better opens my airway, allowing for easier breathing; (3) Higher sides for side sleeping support. CONS: (1) The pillow's sides and corners are not as big as pictured. (2) The pillow is a little too firm for the ears to rest against. Because the sides are rather narrow and the pillow is packed so tightly with stuffing, that side area rises up right where you rest your ear when you're sleeping on your side. Also, when sleeping on your back, if you tilt your head to the side a bit, your ear rests against a too-firm cushion. It's too bad, though, because you need firm support for your neck. (See "Sleep Innovations Memory Foam Contour Pillow with Cotton Cover" for a perfect side-sleeping contour. That was my previous pillow. But for back sleeping, it lacks the proper neck support because it doesn't dip down far enough in the middle. I wish I could mix the two pillows.) I will probably remove a little stuffing from the neck support area of this pillow and sew that area to be narrower. If that doesn't work, I'll buy another Sleep Innovations pillow (queen size), and cut the memory foam down in the bottom center. I admit I tried that, but I remodeled it too much and ruined the pillow.

Chronic neck pain? Give it a try!
I gave this a couple nights sleep before reviewing and I have to say I noticed a big difference the very first night! At first I was skeptical - as for one the price was incredibly affordable for a standard size pillow and a special usage one at that. And two - for how firm it felt/way it was shaped when I took it out of the bag. But all those thoughts were gone after I actually used it. A little about me: Side sleeper 95% of the night. Chronic neck pain/stiffness/bad headaches from injury when I was 7 (25 years ago). My neck does not have a natural curve without constantly going to the chiro for regular adjustments. My insurance plan does not cover these visits so I have stopped going due to cost. I also get nervous whenever my neck is snapped in such a way Back and hip adjustments are great, but my neck is incredibly sensitive for me. I experience rare moments of complete shoulder and neck lock where I can hardly turn it and the pain is intense for several days. Sleep has always been a struggle as I tend to wake up crabby and in pain. I am on a screen 80% of my day for work and home. The other time is spent commuting - 4 mile walks, weights, general tasks and sleep. Needless to say, the repetition and strain my neck and back go through every day is tiring considering I carry a large purse on my shoulders and don't have a great ergonomic station at work. I sleep about 4-6 hours on average a day so for that little time I have I really need a good night's rest. I had been using a custom pillow from sleep number when I visited their store for a fitting, but that pillow had long seen its days. When I decided to try a new one I didn't like too many of my options - considering it's almost impossible to know what you like or need until you have time to break it in. I don't have a budget to waste on trial and error so when this was priced below $10 I couldn't really go wrong. The amount of lift and gentle firm support this gives the side of my neck is just the amount I needed. Too often I have purchased pillows that just felt nice to the touch or generally you think something plush/soft will be comfortable. Both errors on my part. I love this pillow and I hope it holds up for a long while! I also have issues with waking up middle of the night/nightmares and so far I have got deeper sleep with this than I have in awhile. There is a coupon on the pillow right now and it's a steal in my opinion! If you have any issues remotely close to mine I think it's worth trying out even if you are skeptical like me. The price is right and sometimes you don't know what your body needs until you just take a chance on something. I'm really glad I did!

Wonderful cat pillow. Not so great for me.
Update: This ended up becoming a cat bed. It was just too hard and too high for my little head and neck. Cats love it though! I was glad I tried it. It's not a bad product. It just didn't work for me. I tried to like this pillow as is, but couldn't lie on it for more than 10 minutes. The neck roll part was too big and definitely too hard. It actually hurt the muscles in the back of my neck. Like lying on a rock. So I ripped open the seam and removed some of the fill. I made it small and the fill being allowed to expand a little made it so much softer. Because I use a zip shut pillow protector, I didn't even bother to sew it back up. I think even the sides could use a little "trimming" They are pretty hard too, but the height is nice. This is a great value. And judging by how difficult it was for me to actually cut those seams, I would say it's sturdy/durable. There is no odor as it appears to be just simple poly fill, like you can buy to stuff things at your local sewing and craft store. And as for the cats. Yeah, they think this is a kitty bed. Looks pretty much like the kitty beds from the pet store. They don't know any difference and appear to find it cozy.

Working so far for neck pain
I've been dealing with chronic neck pain and post-concussion syndrome for three years after a concussion and whiplash injury. I'm told that most of my symptoms, even the headaches, light and sound sensitivity, etc. are mainly attributable to the damage to my neck rather than my brain. The neck pain and headaches are always worst in the morning when I wake up, and my neck always feels quite stiff after sleeping. I've tried many different pillows, some better than others, from malleable fluffy pillows to thin foam ones, but none of them seemed quite right for my neck. This pillow took me a few days to get used to - it seemed too high at first and just lying on it hurt my neck a bit. I would wake up in the night with my head at awkward angles that hurt my neck as well. But the neck stiffness seemed better in the morning so I kept using it. By night 4 or 5, the weight of my head and neck seemed to have compressed the pillow a little - just enough that it doesn't feel too tall any more. In fact it's quite comfortable whether I'm on my back or my side, and even seems to pleasantly stretch my chronically tense neck a little when I lie on my back. I seem to have adapted to sleeping on it as well; I'm sleeping through the night even better than usual, and I don't seem to move around as much. Most importantly, the morning neck pain and headaches are much less intense, to the point where they're no longer the first thing I notice when I wake up. I can't say I've tried every kind of pillow out there, but of those I have tried this one has worked the best for me. It hasn't cured me by any means, but it feels like I'm no longer making myself worse every time I sleep, which is a huge improvement. It took a few nights to convince me, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
