Active Minds 35 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle: Specialist Alzheimer’s / Dementia Activities and Games (Autumn Market)

I have now bought all 4 of these seasonal jigsaws. They are nothing short of Incredible for someone with dementia who might respond to doing a jigsaw. The layout of doing it in the box with the photo above it is simply genius, the little phrases around gives them something to read and think about and the images themselves are designed to appeal to older people rather than being aimed at a younger generation. So overall genius !Mum has being doing these for the last year, some days she can’t do one piece on her own, others after being supported a little or just having someone else nearby she can complete it. (I do my own 500-1,000 piece jigsaws next to her and she thinks we are both just doing jigsaws so it’s a shared activity), I love using it as an indicator of how she is when I visit and the look on her face when she completes one has been absolutely priceless. One of the best presents I have ever given her. Oh and she is convinced she knows the artist “Trevor Mitchell” - I’m sure she thinks it’s the news reader Trevor McDonald !

This is a very good quality product and well thought out. I wish there weren't the references to dementia and Alzheimer's on the box - I've had to cover them with sticky labels. Couldn't that information be included inside the box on a separate piece of paper that could be removed in cases where it could cause distress as it would for my 101 year old mother? The subject matter of the jigsaw puzzle is perfect as is the clear and very conventional manner in which it is illustrated. It's good to have so much choice in level of difficulty, and with this 35 piece one you do get a feeling of achievement upon completion. The pieces are a little stiff for very elderly hands but the puzzle is very new and I imagine they'll ease a little with use. All in all highly recommended.

Nice artwork, nice quality pieces and the idea that it fits exactly into the frame is genius. The frame however is slightly too tight due to the white paper base which is poorly fitted, this makes the puzzle's completion a bit more problematic than it needs to be in that we had to force the last few pieces into the frame. Maybe my copy was flawed, I am willing to try another one though as this is a really niche product and I don't know of any others!

The quality of the puzzle itself is good but the pieces are a tight fit, odd considering this is aimed at dementia sufferers who, if my wife is anything to go by, might not have the co-ordination to fit them together. Would be better with a looser fit. Also my wife managed to separate the lid from the box within a couple of days. Not a problem you'd think however the adhesive used is so sticky it sticks to everything and is very difficult to remove. Would be better if the lid was designed to be completely removable using the magnetic strip used on the opening edge of the lid.

Grandma loved this! She did finish it very quickly though, I wish it had more pieces

Bought this for grandmother, it arrived quickly and the product is lovely, really nice box with picture for help with completing the puzzle. Lovely product!

Bought for my Mum who has Alzheimer's. Not actually seen her do it as yet. My review is based on the product. Good sized pieces for Mum and the fact that is can be built within the box with a picture to follow. Such a simple idea but ingenious. Would certainly recommend.
