Very informative!
I developed PMR about a year and a half ago and since then I have read many articles on this subject. This book went into much more detail than anything I had read. Very informative!

Publisher's rip-off!
This is a major rip-off on the part of the publisher! And the description by Amazon is misleading as well. I only had time to skim through it before sending it to my mother who has PMR so I really can't be specific about the weaknesses the book has. I see it as the publisher finding a niche market because of virtually no books available on this subject for sufferers, and knowing the disease has mushroomed in the last few years. The page layout is the first evidence of a publisher's tactics- the actual text of the book could have been printed on 20 pages, but they had to turn it into a book so they used nearly half of it for recipes, and used large margins on the text pages. If I wanted a cookbook I would have bought the one offered by Amazon specifically for this disease!!! I'm a cook and my mother is a cook- what an insult to anyone who has any cooking sense at all!!!! We know what to eat and how to prepare it!!!!There is a definite lack of scientific evidence cited for anything in the book; I was hoping to find at least several research studies cited with data and results. I think PMR sufferers will feel like they have just read an article out of Readers' Digest. So, Amazon, please do your homework and don't mislead people with your descriptions and high prices for the sake of filling the pockets of publishers.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica Causes, Tests, and Treatment
The book I received from Amazon had an almost identical cover as the one offered here. The cover was the same color and laid out the same but was edited by Mohamed Awad, M.D. and his name appears on the cover. On the spine of the book and also on the cover is the name John Garrrett making it appear as though he is the author and on the title page is the name of John Hewitt, M.A. as though he is the author. So, I'm not sure who wrote it. Not the guys who supposedly wrote the book listed here and the one I thought I ordered from Amazon. I was disappointed to find only pages 4 through 31 were devoted to PMR, pages 32 through 59 were a Genetic Primer, pages 60 through 73 were devoted to the footnotes of the Primer, pages 74 through 147 are devoted to an alphabetical listing of holistic physicians by state and pages 148 through 177 are devoted to a glossary of medical terms. The 28 pages on PMR contained so many typographical errors I don't think the Editor, Dr. Awad or a proofreader could have read them. So, I paid about $2.00 a page for information on PMR most of which as a patient with PMR I already knew. Under the circumstances I cannot recommend this book for anyone suffering with PMR.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica
I was not impressed with this book. Actually, I would go so far as to say it was a total waste of money. If you want an excellent book on the various types of arthritis purchase the Primer on Rheumatic Diseases which is the best book I've found on this subject.

Very well written and informative book with great tips
I found this book to be extremely helpful in understanding Polymyalgia Rheumatica. It's formatted very well and written in a language I could understand without too much `jargon'.I started researching as much as I could about PMR after one of my best friends was diagnosed with PMR after originally being misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia. The book explains in detail what it is, why you get it, how to treat it, side effects of treatment and offers some excellent self help tips that my friend has started and has found to be tremendously helpful. In particular - foods to consume and foods to avoid, some of which were a surprise to her. Once she cut these foods out, and followed the other self help suggestions, she felt remarkably better. The book also lists some very good resources with sites and phone numbers that we would have otherwise struggled to find. Both of us found the book very well written and recommend it.

Too much filling.
the start of this was fine it covered the symptoms & diagnosis fairly well. Unfortunately too much information was given to 'yoga', as a treatment. This article took up much of the book, as it went into the history of yoga. Although it did indeed require a mention as an alternative treatment/aid,the author dwelling far too much on the subject. The book could have been made slimmer and cheaper by sticking to the relevance of the main subject.

Some useful information but I had not realised it contained recipes similar to those featured in the book 'Polymayalgia Rheumatica Diet'. If I had known this I would not have bought the latter.

Not a well known condition except to sufferers. Good explanations and good guidance. Easy to read, too.
