Hard to read
Instead of delving into the grand armee or Napoleonic military tactics, Broers delves deep into the English thesaurus. Complex sentences and vocabulary make the book hard to read, and seems to be more suitable for an Oxford undergraduate than to a more casual reader. This combined with the depth makes the book incredibly boring.I went into the book with a fairly good understanding of the Napoleonic wars, but I spend most of the time confused or searching the definitions for words ["Corollary", "sequestration", "missive" were found in the space of 3 random pages]. I assume the writer expects you to have a detailed understanding of the period already, and so despite the book being 500 pages long, major battles are covered in a fairly small amount of detail, and are gain confusing.
