it's very warm when it is on, is it normal??

Yes, I have found that my light also gets warm, but not hot. My experience with all battery powered tools is that the batteries generate heat when used. Warm is normal, hot is not.

How do you change the bulb? The cap doesn't unscrew when you turn it.

Sucks. Dont drop this B$$$H!!!! Went through YouTube tryen to figure out how to change the bulb. Went to Amazon for the reviews. Sucks. Now it’s going in the trash!!!!

Does it take D batteries as well?

Oddly, it was designed for ONLY AA batteries, and it needs all 12. That's 18 volts. LED devices have gotten so advanced, they can design flashlights to run on 3 or more batteries of 1.5 volts each, and they can design them with various types of LED bulbs. No need to design a power supply of 18 volts then reduce it to 3 or 4 volts (for the bulbs). I expect the mfr. just likes this design BECAUSE IT WILL SELL MORE BATTERIES!

I have never looked at the bulb but my guess is it will be a normal LED bulb that is available at many places such as Batteries & Bulbs or other lighting stores.
