Teaching Grammar: What Really Works

I was searching for a resource to help me teach grammar that kids would actually use in their writing, and I found it! What a terrific book! It is chock full of background info for grammar nerds 😉, lots of detailed plans, activities that won’t make kids groan, homework ideas, and quick authentic assessments - all with little prep and no worksheets! Many lessons in here are written for middle or high school, but I teach 4th and can absolutely use most of them. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I only regret not finding it sooner!

I teach college-level writing, and although this book is primarily aimed at K-12 teachers, it's incredibly useful and practical for the teaching of grammar at any level. It breaks the material up into clear chunks that are digestible, and articulates very clear relationships between the chunks--this is what is difficult to get across when teaching grammar, and the authors do a wonderful job of schematizing their lessons. I could not recommend this more highly!

This is a very practical, hands on book. I will be looking at it and setting up more lesson plans for next year using it.

Good book on grammar, highly recommended to all that are in the education business.
