Chemical Guys Cly_403 Heavy Clay Bar, Black (100 g)

Great for overspray, especially on glass.

Works great on heavily neglected paint. BEWARE: THIS WILL INDUCE MARRING AND LIGHT SCRATCHING ON DARKER COLORED PAINT, IF IT IS SUCCESSFULLY PULLING HEAVY CONTAMINATES FROM YOUR PAINT! SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MARK THIS PRODUCT DOWN BECAUSE IT CAUSED YOU TO SCRATCH YOUR BEAUTIFUL BLACK PORSCHE. This is more or less a specialty clay for really bad, old, neglected paint. So if you are using this clay bar on paint, you are 99% guarenteed to be following this with a polish or light compound. Chances are, if it's this bad to start with - you're gonna need to polish it out anyways. I follow a black-clay job with Chemical Guys V38 or V36. Something. Also be sure to clean, knead, and dispose of this properly. It's hard to see dirt because of it's color, so be mindful of this. Simple procedures will give you good results. But expect to be polishing or at least using a paint cleaner afterwards to get rid of find scratches. I also want to point out that this works WONDERFUL when claying glass. No you will not scratch your glass. It handles rocks at freeway speeds, sand, the sun, acid rain, everything else - bird crap, sap, leaves, whatever. It could care less about the clay. In fact I use old no-longer-for-paint use clay when I am washing a vehicle on glass. Recycling old materials is always a good idea! Cost effective way of removing light water spotting and contamination. Glass cleaner and car-washing will *not* remove sap and bonded contaminates from glass, but this will. This is what gives glass that silky smooth feel again. Heavy water etching will need heavy treatment, such as a dedicated glass polish. But this with your soapy water will remove 99% of whatever is on your glass.

My vehicle was covered in overspray when a building was repainted near my parking area. I tried a fine nankin clay sponge and the Meguiar's regular clay from their clay bar kit, both of which removed some of the paint but left the majority of it. This CG heavy clay removed all of the overspray after going over each panel twice with a fair amount of pressure. However, due to the clay being a heavy composition, be prepared to induce marring and light scratches to the surface. My vehicle is a '17 WRX, which is known for having soft paint, but the marring was quite significant. Fortunately I expected that result, and the claying step was in preparation prior to machine polishing and applying a ceramic coating. All of the defects were able to be removed using a medium pad with M205. So, I would only use this clay as a last resort if finer grades are not removing your contamination.

Bought to clean up the Jeep for multiple step process to repair paint damage. Watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Learning about this product. Why I like the heavy clay option for initial project work is the ability to manage the first time clearing. After working on the Jeep had clay left over. From various abilities from heavy to light. Upon working on replacing windows from a house built in 1900 and their storm windows replaced with the steel framed 1970’s or about that time version. Plus added in the place was painted since then without covering the storm windows knew the residue needed more than windex and newspaper to remove the build up of stuff. Upon trying the yellow original bar to little avail broke out this heavy black option. Exterior paint to years of dust build up left using the clay liquid lube and a piece of this bar. What works for me is periodically flipping the bar. Remashing it. Mixing up the bar from heavy use in a spot. Super excited the windows are crystal clear. And the double hung windows will open making cleaning simple on the inside. Though for the outside a window washing strategy with a tall ladder to the second floor is the ticket. Now that the outside is free of decades of debris melt into the window combined with weathering. Making for an effort in patience and this fantastic project. This is a repurchase to keep so on hand for spring when revisiting the Jeep. Repairing the motorcycle fender paint and decal application. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🏆

Used this on a car with paint overspray and worked great 👍. I was surprised how easily it came off with this clay bar. I bought 3 more because it's a huge 1960s car, but I feel like it was well worth the money. Excellent product. Car looks great after using it. Perfect for cleaning paint.

Highly recommend. Had overspray get all over my truck from construction site. These clay bars worked great. Now my paint is smooth again. Definitely lot of work.

This clay seems REALLY tough. I don't know if it was just too cool outside or what, but it didn't really feel like it would kneed at all. -I'm not a fan of the black, either. I hadn't thought of that when purchasing... With others, you can see the grime in the clay and know when to kneed it. -This one is as black as night and offers no indication on when you need to go to a different piece. I'm giving it three stars because it did do a good job of removing debris from my paint, however; but I'll probably use a different kind, next time around.

This stuff is great. I had so many contaminant embedded in my car’s paint that it was actually keeping it from it’s best shine. If you were to run your hand over my car’s paint it was full of very fine bump’s. Felt a bit like drywall. But after using this clay bar it’s like running your hand on glass. If done properly by Following the directions. It will make a world of difference in your paint. Just be sure to use enough blue. You could use water were a few drops of salt nothing crazy. Best value for money!!

We moved across country last year and learned they have an irritating way of "resurfacing" the roads here. Normally they'll either fill in potholes, or rip up and replace the road, right? Not here! They just dumped a bunch of asphalt and let the traffic tamp it down for them. The result was a horrific mess of black tar all over my white car! I bought the heavy duty clay bar as I knew it'd be a tough job, and though it did take a lot of work/rubbing, almost everything did come out. There was a small area of tar and yellow road paint in one of the wheel wells that didn't fully come out, but it's still much better. The picture really doesn't do it justice/the difference was far more stark in person, but you get the idea! Edit to add: The comments that complain about the clay smearing on the paint - yes, that can happen, though I found it tended to happen when I was feeling a bit low on luber. It also wipes right off if you just rub the clay bar over it again, so it's really not a big deal!

It's not the best clay bar I've ever used, but it does the job. I had to remove grey fence paint from my already chalky, white car paint and unfortunately the black and stickiness of this product fights you and tries to stick to the paint rather than slip over it, and yes that's even when thoroughly wet. While the new age kids think using a clay bar is for debris removal or smoothing paint (that's not what clay bars are for), this item won't do that. Unless it's just the batch I received; it sticks/grips to the paint too much.

Good clay bar. Would buy again.
