Arabic For Dummies

Although I am not finished with the book, it has already taught me a lot about the Arabic language. Learning the script is difficult but this book did a great job explaining and taking you step by step through the process.

Nice book. I use this in conjunction to Ahlan wa Salan (Textbook and Workbook). This book has excellent vocab lessons in it.

Received in pretty good condition, easy reading.

Arabic transliteration is used here so it is understandable. All the books under the title 'Dummies' are well written.

it didn't help me as much as I thought it would

It would have been very helpful to cover how each letter appears depending on where it is in a word. This doesn't help very much if you are interested in reading and writing. It's better if you just want to speak it.

this book is very clear and easy to learn but there are a few common words which i would expect to be in this book and they were not. Before you buy this book make sure it is the right type of arabic you want to learn because there are many types

It was only the first edition of this book (2006) which had no Arabic script. Both the 2nd edition (2013), which I have, and the 3rd edition (2018) have Arabic script alongside a transliteration which is very useful in the early (or even later) stages of learning the alphabet.The chapters are mainly based on situations like shopping, dining out etc., so are useful for daily situational conversations (there is a CD-ROM, playable on a computer only, inside the back cover of the 2nd edition book with audio versions of the conversations).The Arabic script in the 2nd edition is of acceptable size even for my less than perfect vision.I gather from the description of the 3rd edition that audio files are now online and there is more information on grammar, verb forms and pronunciation.I think that anyone buying this should buy the 3rd edition (beware if buying used - sellers may not distinguish between editions). I intend to buy the 3rd edition soon.Having spent more money then the cost of this book on a one hour lesson with a teacher, I think this book represents brilliant value-for-money.

It is a great little book, perhaps not as easily understood as Dummies books usually are.

I've been learning Arabic on Duolingo and I bought this book to help me. It is SO well written and starts with simpler exercises but explains so much about the language going along.A great buy.

good for the most part but to a true arab speaking person, the book is flawed unfortunately. so if you're totally depending on it, you could be saying something and not even realize that it's flawed until you speak to someone who actually knows the language
