BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I bought this for my granddaughter for Christmas so we can set it up in my sewing room with my machines hoping she would enjoy it as much as I do. First, it is not as pictured. The machine I received had 3 small spools of threading the top right side of it, it's the "deluxe chainstich", not as pictured. I figured so what, she won't know the difference and kept it. Biggest mistake of my on line buying experience. The machine is a piece of explicit words!! Threading is nearly impossible and when you finally get it, the stitches don't hold and the thread breaks. My granddaughter never even got to use it and if she wasn't in the room I would've thrown it against the wall. Unbelievable the poor quality. Now, when she comes over, I have to keep my sewing room door closed so she doesn't see it and ask to learn. At least until I can figure out what to do for a learner machine. Not sure if you can give zero stars, but if you see one, it's because I was left with no choice.

Pretty good little machine
My son bought this for his 6 year old sister because she really wanted a sewing machine. For a toy it works. Does not go backward, but for a kid learning it does not need to. It is a needle and actually sews. She has spent hours on it playing. He got her a sewing book also. I will say that the needle is impossible to thread. Because it is a toy the space is extremely small. I use a pair of needle nose pliers to retread it with a lot of lite. All in all, It sews, she loves it and it is worth it.The other little sewing machines had horrible reviews, so he picked this one. Mind you it is intended for a child so I would not buy it for a 12 year old, way to small. But for a 5-8 year old--- definitely a good starter.

Agreed... not a great machine, but still entertains my toddler with construction paper piecing!
As other reviewers have posted, this machine doesn't work well. HOWEVER, I did still give it three (and almost four) stars because it keeps my toddler entertained with construction paper while I quilt! Before he always wanted to be pushing the pedal, pulling the thread and "helping"... at least I can get a few moments of sewing in while he is entertained. If you want a better machine for an older child, I would splurge for the Brother that is rated very high on Amazon. I bought it for a friend's daughter for Christmas. Usually less than $175 and sews like a dream. I use a Bernina and was VERY impressed with the Brother that costs less than the service bill for my Bernina.

NOT what I expected!
I'm going to be returning this item. I was not happy with how small the size of the sewing machine was. It could only be used if you turning the wheel. There was no peddle. I found another Lalaloopsy chainstitch sewing machine...double the size, With a battery operated foot pedal and 3 spools of thread instead of one. Also BIG difference in the price. The small one from amazon $26.00, found one locally for $19.00...and NOT ON SALE. Sorry Amazon...VERY disappointed in your item!!

I bought this to introduce the basics of a sewing machine which this is perfect for. Yes
Let me start by saying this is a toy! I got it for my 5 year old daughter who wanted a sewing machine. I bought this to introduce the basics of a sewing machine which this is perfect for. Yes, it's a pain to thread but that's ok. And half of the time she doesn't mind if it's threaded or not. There is no bobbin, it does a chains stitch. So everything will come undone. I give this 4 stars for the price and the fact that it functions like a sewing machine. It's a great starter for a child to understand how a sewing machine works. The pedal cord isn't very long, but does work if the child is sitting at a small children's table.

Disappointing
Bought this for my 5 year old granddaughter and was very disappointed. It is almost impossible to thread the needle. There is no bobbin and no way to fasten on or off. Consequently, the stitching starts to unravel as soon as you remove the fabric from under the needle. It is a toy, it does not function adequately for sewing purposes. I also had some safety concerns, the first thing my granddaughter did was put her finger very close to the needle while pressing the foot pedal.
