7cm Mauviel saucepan
This saucepan is a thing of beauty. It is small (very small, at only 7cm diameter) but absolutely stunning, as you would expect from Mauviel. The saucepan does not have a dark handle as is currently shown in the picture on the site, but I think it might be brass (my saucepans came without the manufacturer's box, so I don't know for sure what material has been used in the handle) and actually I think they look much nicer as a result. The Mauviel name is stamped/engraved on the side of the copper pan rather than the base - again, it is not as shown in the picture on site but much larger. I don't think it detracts from the piece.I confess that the main reason I purchased this saucepan is not to make sauces but to serve individual portions of food, copying a local restaurant. I am going to have to make an awful lot of nice food to ensure my partner doesn't question the wisdom of this purchase.... Or perhaps just become a master of sauce making?

Very, very small
Had to return it as it was smaller than it said in the description - 0.6L is a pint, but this pan is more like a big spoon. Otherwise very nicely made item.

Lovely but very small, the capacity is not as stated
This is a very dinky, cute, exquisitely-made little pan but I was disappointed in the minute size. I know what 7cm looks like so I expected it to be small but the technical details state that the capacity is 0.5L (500ml). Therefore I wasn't sure if the 7cm size was perhaps the radius rather than diameter of the pan, or if it would be taller in height. I've also seen similar mini-pans on TV cookery programmes which, while small, are serviceable (after the event, I now assume these others must have been at least 9cm or 10cm).With the 500ml capacity being stated, I was led to believe the pan would be big enough to heat single portions of shop-bought sauces (a maximum of around 250ml) to save using a much larger pan thus reducing washing-up and extending the number of usable pans I have at storage minimal space. Instead I've measured the capacity and found it to be only 130ml and that's full to the brim, when obviously you wouldn't have that amount of liquid in the pan in practice as it would spill everywhere. I was also hoping to use the pan to make single portions of white/ cheese sauce but it's far too small for that. So far I've only been able to use it as a tiny bain-marie (with small Pyrex container inside) for melting a little chocolate as a dessert topping, and to heat a small amount of alcohol for a hot toddy.I made the decision not to send it back as I knew it would be used occasionally, and it will no doubt last a lifetime (plus keeping it saved any hassle) but I was ultimately disappointed when it wasn't able to be used for the purposes I bought it for...and it's not exactly cheap! If it's a mega-tiny pan you're looking for, then you will be delighted but otherwise I feel it's just not practical for most purposes, for the average cook at least.

My collection
I am so pleased I found these little gems , after seeing them used in a high class restaurant from kitchen to table I vowed would buy some - so glad I did.

What is it meant to be used for?
7th is smaller than it reads, what's it good for? My niece uses them for her dolls, not big enough fir teddy bears.
