Product Description Product Description For decades, scores of doctors, government officials, journalists, and others have extolled the benefits of psychiatric medicines for children. GENERATION RX presents "the rest of the story" and unveils how this era of unprecedented change in Western culture really occurred - and what price has been paid by our society. International award-winning filmmaker Kevin P. Miller (Let Truth Be The Bias, The Promised Land) "delivers a jaw-dropping emotional ride,"* and "weaves a terrifying tale of criminal conspiracy, the mass abandonment of medical ethics, and the routine betrayal of an entire generation."* By employing the expertise of internationally respected professionals from the fields of medicine, ethics, journalism, and academia, GENERATION RX investigates collusion between drug companies and their regulatory watchdogs at the FDA and focuses on the powerful stories of real families who followed the advice of their doctors - and faced devastating consequences for doing so. GENERATION RX is a film about families who confronted horror and found nowhere to turn for help - and how scores of children have been caught in the vortex of mind-bending drugs at the earliest stages of their growth and development. This powerful documentary also questions whether we have forced millions of children onto pharmaceutical drugs for commercial rather than scientific reasons. Ultimately, Generation RX may help parents decide whether the perceived benefits of these medications outweigh the serious risks to children. "Generation Rx is a film that every parent should see," says Jason Buchanan of ALL MOVIE GUIDE. Review The drugging of children for profit is one of the most despicable crimes that is occurring in our society at this time. This movie educates and raises awareness of what is occurring right now. Generation RX is an extremely well-done documentary that documents the facts of how we are being used for financial gain. There are innocent victims that are being exploited - children. This was once an untapped market that the Pharmaceutical industry mines using the best talent from Madison Avenue and then spreading the wealth to others that are in a position to forward their goals (JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, doctors, ...). You'll learn how we got where we are today. The DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) lists disorders, including the behavioral disorders such as ADHD, bi-polar, and so on, that enables doctors to prescribe a drug even though there is no medical test to support it. One thing I learned is that the committee / authors of the DSM have financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry. In some areas 100% of the panel members have financial ties. The corruptness of the FDA is also made clear and how we need a firewall between the regulators and those that profit from what is being regulated. Right now we have a "fox watching the hen house" scenario. How these drugs got approved when there was clear evidence of the harm they cause is brought out. The data of prozac was available 20+ years ago, yet these drugs were approved. Many have stated that ADHD is a made-up disease to collect patients that manifest the stated symptoms of ADHD. Yet when such a panel of "experts" met and a question was raised to describe the symptoms, the so-called expert could not answer the question. He yammers on for minutes making an utter fool of himself but clearing showing that ADHD is merely a four letter acronym to somehow make it seem like a disease that allows drugs to be prescribed and profits to be made while children's lives are ruined or even ended by suicide. Generation RX gets the point across without undue emotion. It clearly presents with facts and personal stories what the current scene is today and what occurred to get us there. We know the players that created this system. We also are challenged to do something about it. It is an ethical point and all of us need to do something to change it, even if it is writing a letter to our elected representatives. The movie is sobering but you have to see it. Our futures depend on our children and our children depend on us. --Software GeekLast week I received an unexpected telephone call from Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Kevin P. Miller. Apparently, the health-conscious filmmaker and President/CEO of Well TV had stumbled across the All Movie Guide pages for his previous films, and was seeking to get the word out about his latest project a passionate and informative look at the questionable methods often used to diagnose and treat children deemed to be afflicted by the behavioral disorder du jour. The call couldn t have come at a more serendipitous time: Just two nights prior, my parents-in-law and I had engaged in an extended conversation about this exact topic, and having witnessed firsthand the shattering effects that Prozac had on a close family friend, the subject was still very much fresh in my mind when the telephone rang. Kevin seemed like a very sincere guy, and much to my surprise, he asked if I would be willing to take a look at his latest documentary, Generation Rx. The following week I received an envelope containing the film and, being curious as to what Mr. Miller would have to say about the topic my in-laws and I had discussed just a few days back, I immediately went home and fired up my DVD player. Eighty minutes later, as the screen went black and the credits began to roll, I found myself struggling to process the heartbreaking stories and blistering testimonials that had just flashed so forcefully before my eyes. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I m an avid horror geek, but few films have genuinely frightened me as much as Generation Rx. Back when I was in high school, my parents took in a close friend whose home-life quickly turned violent after her mother began taking Prozac. The experience made me worry about the increasingly prolific use of pharmaceutical drugs in treating so-called behavioral disorders. Not only in terms of the averse effects they may have on the patient, but also in terms of their ability to inflict serious damage on those surrounding the patient. It was obvious to me that so-called mood stabilizers and lifestyle drugs of this nature could destroy entire families when taken under the right (or wrong, as it may be) circumstances. Of course, I had read the articles and seen the news magazine specials about ADHD, but it wasn t until watching Generation Rx that the implications and complications of diagnosing this disorder became so undeniably clear to me. Reactionaries and moralists like to point the finger at Marilyn Manson and violent video games when students load up on guns and head out on a shooting spree, but what if the true catalysts for these and other youthful tragedies is something far more sinister; the result of something we re doing as parents that s actually intended to help our children, but instead ends up harming them in ways we could have never anticipated? While the answer to this question may be difficult for some parents to fathom, as a father I believe that it s one worth asking. Generation Rx is a film that every parent should see, especially if they re considering putting their child on any form of antidepressant or mood-altering drug. I ll have a full review up for the film shortly, but for now I encourage those seeking to learn more about Generation Rx to head on over to filmmaker Kevin Miller s blog, or e-mail him directly at [email protected] --Jason Buchanan

SACRIFICING KIDS FOR PROFIT
The review by MSUKate, who is evidently part of the psychiatric establishment, clearly highlights why GENERATION RX is such an important film. `Kate' is a denialist, and she notes that "so many people in this film are so quick to blame the drugs that they have become blinded." I would submit to you that it is Kate and her cohorts who are blinded -- and they are subjecting their air-filled science upon millions of children for professional and financial gain. How else can one explain her villifying Pultizer Prize nominated science journalist Robert Whitaker's take on the use of psychiatric meds among children and teens? In the film, Whitaker clearly expresses that he was a strong believer in the merits of these drugs -- until he actually conducted the research and examined the scientific studies that any responsible journalist must. When he learned that the science was NOT able to support the claims of the psychiatric and pharmaceutical communities, Whitaker showed great integrity by speaking out against what he called the "fraud perpetrated on the American public."`MSUKate' also claims that "psychoactive drugs are not prescribed without cause," which is complete and utter nonsense, unless one considers a child squirming in his chair to be just cause for drugging him/her with Speed/Ritalin. Finally, Kate opines, "I found this so-called documentary very one-sided and highly biased."The reality is that GENERATION RX tells "the rest of the story," the one that the drug reps and purveyors of shoddy science don't want you to hear. God forbid that you would be made aware of possible dangers of these drugs before you actually put your child on them! What are these people afraid of? It appears that Kate -- and indeed the entire psychiatric community -- are simply afraid of the truth.

I find it particularly disturbing that I can find no medical help to repair it despite a growing number of publications and grea
As a damaged patient who was never informed of the risks of antidepressants and benzodiazepines (or the lack of their efficacy), I wish I had seen this film before 2011 when my descent into disability fueled by these drugs began. This journey has forced me to learn so much about the underpinnings of modern medical treatments and their science (or lack thereof). Having been so damaged, I find it particularly disturbing that I can find no medical help to repair it despite a growing number of publications and great movies such as this calling out these drugs and harmful medical practices for what they are. As a self-proclaimed "survivor" of treatment, I applaud the maker of this film. Raising awareness is critical for those who have been harmed already and those who are headed for disaster in the future.I understand a second film is coming. I look forward to it's release and will help promote it so that perhaps even just one person is spared from the damage that was done to me and so many others in the name of greed.

PARENTS: GET THIS FILM NOW!
I have done much research on the dangers of psychtropic drugs and I have had a hard time trying to convey it to family and friends but this film does it better than anything I've come across (in film). This film is a must-see for all. Please get it and get informed about the drugging of America's children and everyone else. Well done documentary, very, very informative. Highly recommend.

Great information dated now but still relevant
While most of the suicide information is dated; the inclusion of the warning though does little to prevent the use by many teens in America. While the continued over-prescription of ADD/ADHD medications is still relevant and persistent in our society and not likely to get better. Since teachers, counselors and doctors started pushing for the medication of children who the "couldn't handle" in the classroom the use of these medications has increased; which is disturbing since many European countries are now banning the use of these Methylphenidate drugs in children. Perhaps an update to this would be in order.note: at-risk youth treatment professional

so many problems
I agree with a lot of these reviews about this film being propaganda. There is a lot of missing evidence throughout this film. I hope people do more research about the issues brought out in this film before they fully form opinions on prescription medications.

SSRI Madness
I'm no big pharma fan but what a joke. This film is like a mid-century propaganda film. It does nothing but make false claims. It claims antidepressants actually cause neurotransmitter deficiencies. That there is zero evidence that they help depression and that depression is basically made up by the drug companies. It shows footage from the Columbine shooting several times when only one of the shooters had been previously prescribed antidepressants. Obviously antidepressants weren't the common link in that situation. I could go on and on. If you watch this, research the claims online and you will get a different picture.

IMPORTANT AND A MUST SEE!!!
HAVING OBSERVED THE SIDE EFFECTS OF DRUG USE IN FRIENDS AND INMATES AT A PRISON WHERE I WORKED FOR A YEAR(SPEED AND COCAINE) I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE IDEA OF GIVING CHILDREN RITALIN WAS ABSURD...ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL. IT'S NOTHING BUT A LOGICAL DEDUCTION, COMMON SENSE! THIS IS A MUST SEE DOCUMENTARY. SHOULD BE MANDATORY VIEWING FOR ALL PEDIATRICIANS AND TEACHERS AND ANY PARENT THINKING ABOUT MEDICATING THEIR CHILDREN/TEENS DUE TO BEHAVIOR OR POOR GRADES.

Not a documentary, more of a propaganda film
Statistics are misused continuously in this film, coincidences are treated as prima facie evidence, and the film makes no pretext of actually investigating psychiatric pharmaceuticals. Now, I'm not saying that 4 year olds be routinely placed on psychiatric drugs, but this film is pure propaganda.
