Strength training explained - structured framework to in-depth understanding of activities
At the age of 54 I returned to cycling, mountain biking and started my journey to improve my health and fitness,. As I improved I found that a number of weakness developed due to my many years of low levels of cycling/fitness activity. Last fall, I worked out I needed to strengthen my body to counteract these weaknesses and enable my further development. I engaged a coach and through the coach introduced strength training to my weekly training activities. My strength training is going well, I can feel the weaknesses I was suffering reducing as I build core strength.I do not have much in the way of experience of training for performance and so am on a journey of understanding. I have picked up some understanding on how strength training supports my development from my coach, podcasts, articles and books. I was given an early tip-off about this new book from Menachem Brodie and although only part way through reading it I am finding it super helpful in developing a framework of understanding about strength training, how it fits in with on bike training and the order of strength training activities and on bike activities. This book is well laid out and easy to read. I am already furthering my understanding of the basis and timing for the strength training activities I am working on with my coach. It has given me a greater understanding of what the year training cycle looks like which I am already using to help me plan the events I want to enter this year with a much more targeted approach. It is also helping me understand the basis for strength training and the areas that are targeted with the different strength training activities. I have much more to read and I suspected reread to take full advantage of the information being provided in this book and feel I can recommend it for those, like me, at the start of their strength training journey…….

A wealth of knowledge 🏋♀️
Menachem Brodie has been helping athletes improve their performance through strength training for years now and he has written this excellent book for master athletes.By explaining why we need to strength train in a structured balanced way he is helping ensure we perform better on the bike and stay healthy in to our later life.I've been using his methods for nearly two years and it has been such a revelation in helping ensure I balance the hours on the bike and avoid injury.
