Duality
It may be of interest to know that what lies behind (literally) these dice is the concept of duality. A normal die is a cube with six faces and eight vertices. Mark the centre of each of the six faces and join them up, and you get an octahedron (a polyhedron with eight faces and six vertices). The two polyhedra are called duals of each other. There are many instances of duality in mathematics, and it forms a very imortant concept. So, what we have here are dice which have been 'inflated' to form a sphere, inside of which is a hollow octahedron, with a little ball bearing, free to roll around inside the octahedron, until it comes to rest at one of the six vertices, which lands at the bottom due to the weight of the bearing, displaying the supplementary number on the top. Supplementary, in the sense that numbers on opposite faces of a die add up to seven. Just thought you might be interested.
