Loved this!
This is an authentic and captivating first-hand account written by one of the pioneer Christian missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands. Lucy Goodale Thurstonʻs strength of character, sense of humor, and genuine trust in the Lord she knows intimately shines through page after page, as well as her love and respect for the native people, who she comes to embrace as her own ohana (family). Her story is truly a treasure!

excellent, thought-provoking book
This is an excellent book, really showing the selfless dedication of the first Christian missionaries to Hawaii. Their zeal and devotion to God really puts contemporary Christians to shame. My mother was a Thurston, so this lady is one of my ancestors. It's very inspirational and worth the time it takes to work through the classic American English of the time period.

Great historical reference re Hawaii and the first missionaries
This book was reproduced by Mrs. Thurston's family as an important historical document. She was a woman from New England who was one of the first missionaries to settle in Hawaii. I believe James Mitchner used this book to compile some of his characters in his historical novel, Hawaii. Anyone interested in the REAL history of HI should take a look at this book.

I am inspired by missionary stories and really like ready about history
I am inspired by missionary stories and really like ready about history. This did both. I learned more about our newer state Hawaii than I ever did besides.
