No Delusion . . . This is brilliant
Dredg are without doubt one of the most original Rock bands in the world at the moment. Now with four studio albums and one live album to their name they are well and truly established in this position. Every album has been different with its own feel and character, and to pull of this progression and diversity is no small feat. Fourth studio album `The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion' then has developed their sound further. The little interludes are back. The individual tracks still stand out but things seem to have a more mechanical rhythm to them to start with softened by those vocals. This sound develops through the album and really does take you on a musical journey. The opener and title track `Pariah' starts with layered vocals that sound lack a school yard song before leading into a stripped back verse lead by drums and bass. The chorus is filled with brilliant lyrics such as "Oh delusions, never really qualified as an excuse". The chorus is followed by enough space for a good little riff before relaxing back into the verse, and there is a quick break down before the end thrown in to great effect. It is a handsome opening track. `Drunk Slide' then provides the first little interlude before leading into `Ireland' which is a brilliant track. It feels sentimental, has huge power and has a great chorus that everyone can sing along to. The machine then continues on plunging from interludes to tracks, dragging you into the alternate reality that Dredg reside within, where great music is so effortless. The three singles from the album, `Information', `Saviour' and `I Don't Know' make up the mid section of the album. This grants the advantage of not allowing things to get slow or boring. `Mourning This Morning' then adds more diversity to the album with the use of a string section and a bouncy finger picked guitar part. `Long Days and Vague Clues' then swells out of the relaxed interlude like something out of a nightmare fair ground, all ominous string sections and piano lines. By the time you're through `Cartoon Showroom' the mood has lifted again and `Quotes' builds on the slightly euphoric feeling and should really be played as a closing track at gigs from now on. `Down the Cellar' provides an atmospheric build up to the final `Stamp of Origin...' track that any post-rock band would be proud of. The final track then feels like the closing thoughts at the end of a diary. You feel like you have gone on a journey into the wonderful world that Dredg has created and now it's time to wake up and come back to reality.... or see them live. This album is well worth it whether you're already a fan or not.

Looking for a saviour?
Being an avid fan of Dredg since Leitmotif the air was indeed heavy as I dove into this new album."Leitmotif" was and still is a work of pure genius. "El Cielo" refined the bands eclectic mix of influences further and added a touch of skywalker ranch polish to the delivery. The tricky third album "Catch Without Arms" was a mixed bag in my humble opinion, with moments of exceptional song writing and performance occasionally marred by too much art college contemplation. I had fingers and toes firmly crossed as I hit play for the first time on a sunny drive to work...There are so many reasons why you should own this album and so few words available for me to accurately attribute the praise it deserves. Existing fans will love it regardless of when they first discovered the band's music. Newcomers will be introduced to the distinct Dredg soundscape in an album that is once again produced to highest acoustic standards and adorned with meaningful prose in every lyric. To lay too much praise on any member of Dredg would in some way devalue the contributions of the others. Let's just say the musicianship is top notch throughout, a tight and focused family unit that most bands can only ever aspire to become. The album wears it's "concept" theme with pride and its tale is one that is handled with maturity and an overall feeling of love and forgiveness. Bold, brave and totally intriguing. As the pages on the songs were turned I never wanted it to end. Sadly it had to. The fall of many albums with such a strong narrative becomes apparent when individual tracks are re-visited. Thankfully this is not the case here. The songs have a life and purpose of their own. Each one with the strength and identity to recreate the desired emotion away from the collective. Beautifully crafted.Never dipping too far into the heavier moments from the first two albums it still manages to capture all the right peaks and "shiver" moments in the chorus sections. Continuing to layer sounds to create a crescendo that you would never imagine a four piece to achieve. Seeing them perform live is an equally awe inspiring experience. I only hope they include more UK dates on their next tour.Thank you Dredg! For another album that will hold a special place in my heart.See you in Sacramento :)

carry on the way you are
having known of, seen and been a firm supporter of this brilliant band, it fills me with a wonderful feeling to get the package through the door from Americayou have to listen to the album and you will find that it deffinatley ticks all the boxes, at this moment in time (to me) the only other band who are releasing music that is challenging are "Mars Volta", i've played the album at least 7 times so far and i'm finding something new on each playas the years have passed by the music has intensified to the extent that we now have four albums to listen to and to see where the music has taken this bandi wont comment on individual tracks as the album works as a whole item, if you dont like it you dont like it but i do, i think the band continue to bring new and exciting eliments to their music and to get the full force of this album you need to clear your head and just let the music take over"the air was heavy - he could feel it in his lungs"brilliant stuff ... it really is
