AltraMen's Escalante 3 Sneaker

A good companion to my Lone Peak 8s
I really like my Lone Peak trail runners so I decided to look for another Altra pair with suitable tread and cushioning for pavements. If you're used to zero heel drop, your calves do the heavy shock-absorbing, but it's nice to have that little extra on hard surfaces. The Escalante 3s do the job well and look very smart and sporty. I even got a compliment on their first outing! I felt quite happy doing my longer city runs right from the start. They feel softer, with a little bounce, also more snug, but fine with thin socks. I first tried on the VIA Olympus but I felt insecure because those are very chunky with thick soles and pronounced toe roll-off. The Esclantes have what I'd call a more neutral and conventional feel.

Good for tailor's bunions
I have wide, shallow feet and have suffered tailor's bunions on my little toes and Morton's neuroma from shoes constricting my feet. These shoes are the best I have found so far. They could be a little wider but I found them immediately comfortable. The heel counter is very soft and doesn't impinge on my Achilles' tendons like most shoes. The midsole is fairly firm, which I prefer. The shoe seems to have a much better build quality than the Altras I used a few years ago.Sizing-wise, I often go up half a UK size in running shoes to get a good fit without squashed toes, but I found the best fit was my normal UK size.

Not as wide as as you would think
So for the price you would think that these trainers do everything. They advertise as wide foot but they are actually smaller than the normal trainers I would buy at size 11.They are made in such a way where when you compared to a normal size 11 the toe area is actually the same but the part of the heal and arch are actually smaller and feel tight on my foot.So I despite the YouTube reviews they are nowhere near as good as they claim to be

only suitable for people with low instep
This shoe is only suitable for people with low intep to their feet. Had i known this bfore i wouldnt have placed an order for the shoes.Cannot give a full review on fit and quality as i was unable to put the shoe on to try.Toe box looked like it might have been wide enough but i will never know for certain.

Not as good as the Escalante 2.5
Similar to other reviewers on here, I think this shoe is a downgrade from the Escalante 2.5. There's much less bounce in the Escalante 3, in fact the soles feel quite dead, even compared to my old 2.5s, which have done about 500km. The tongue has gone from being skinny and unobtrusive to being much more cushioned and thick (and annoying!). I love this brand, due to the sensible foot design, so I really hope they improve things for the next iteration, as I've returned my 3s to buy another set of 2.5s!

Awesome Shoes
Great shoes with a nice wide toe box. I have double or triple E feet. These are fantastic. Wish I could afford to buy several pairs.

Don't waste your money
Started to break down and wear out 400kms before my last two pairs of shoes.

My husband loves them!
I bought these for my husband and he loves them. He needs stable shoes that are still comfortable. The zero drop is great for lifting weights and he even goes running in them!

Amazing!!
These are the best shoes I've ever had. I had to go a half size up for fit, but I will never buy another brand of sneaker again.
