I’ve been using Foscam cameras for many years, both indoors and outdoors. I rely on them not only for home security but also to photograph owls and other night creatures, which has become one of my favorite hobbies. Alongside Foscams, I’ve also used a Google Nest Cam—which I initially preferred due to its reliable cloud service and durable build. But over time, I’ve noticed that while the Nest Cam has stayed largely the same, Foscam has continued to upgrade its technology and app, making it my top choice today. Final Thoughts Overall, I’m very happy with the Foscam SD4H. It combines excellent zoom, smart tracking, and solid app support (on both mobile and PC platforms) into one package. Very happy with this security camera! Setup was very easy on the Foscam app and I installed an SD card that saves all of the recordings on device. Through the app, it is very easy to watch and download these recordings off the SD card. The pros and cons: Pros: - No subscription required. If you want to use Foscam's cloud service, you need to pay a subscription, but for most functions it's a one payment deal. - Sturdy metal frame! This is a relatively heavy camera and needs to be bolted well to a wall - Looks professional and clean - Camera pan/tilt function is very responsive and allows me to see 360 deg around, straight ahead, and straight down (obviously not up) - The video is very crisp and has low latency. I was surprised about how clear the video is, even in low light mode - The zoom is really powerful! I was afraid it was going to be a digital zoom by just cropping the video feed but it is a mechanical zoom that ensures the video is clear even at 18x. I can make out text even at maximum zoom - I love the manual focus adjustment setting. Auto focus works well, but I love that I can manually change the focus of the camera if I need to. - It's great to have both Wifi and Ethernet options! Also comes with a water resistant ethernet cord/port cover - Speaker is loud and clear - Has an ONVIF mode for 3rd party video feed integration (I will be integrating into Home Assistant soon!) - The human detection works well. The camera starts recording when a human is detected and saves the videos on the SD card. Cons: - The power cord is a bit shorter than I'd like. When connected, the power cord from the base of the camera mount to the outlet is around 95 inches (7.9 ft). I'd prefer this to be closer to 15 or 20 ft when in an outdoor setting, but an extension cord works too. - The box says "works with Google Home" but I was unable to stream video on my Google Home app. This is not a big deal for me; the Foscam app works fine. Overall, this camera does everything I need and more. Very happy with it.

I have picked Foscam as my security camera of choice going back to the FI8910 days. Foscam is always improving the specs, reliability and versatility of their cameras. I mostly like them because they are easy to use. My old Foscam FI9828P V2 Outdoor PTZ camera still worked great but it recently reached EOL (end-of-life). EOL means no more firmware security updates and that means time for a new security camera. I decided on the brand new Foscam SD4H after an exhaustive search. Most security companies now offer outdoor cameras but none offer Pan and Tilt. The PTZ feature is essential for me, both for indoor and outdoor security cameras. I was able to mount the new camera in the exact same location as the old camera, even though the SD4H is larger and heavier than the FI9828P. My exterior walls are white so the SD4H blends in perfectly. The FI9828P has a 3.5" tinted privacy dome covering the camera. The SD4H does not have a privacy dome therefore everyone can see where the camera is pointed at. I hope to find a 5" dome to cover the new camera. There are fewer cables connected to the SD4H which makes it easier to fix the wiring inside an electrical junction box (the FI9828P had separate alarm, audio and video cables, which I never used anyways). The reset switch now has a protective cover. The Ethernet cable comes with a waterproof connector. I would prefer they included a locktight connecter for the power. The MicroSD card slot is easily accessible without having to disassemble the camera (as on the FI9828P). Installation was easy. I installed the SD4H with the Foscam Android app using only a Wi-Fi connection. This is a vast improvement since the FI9828P needs an actual Ethernet cable connection to upgrade firmware or change the Wi-Fi password. I also successfully tested installing the SD4H via Ethernet using the Foscam VMS software. For some reason, even after several attempts, I was unable to install the SD4H via Ethernet with the Android app (but the install worked fine in the App once I removed the Ethernet cable). The image quality, 18x zoom, AI detection and night vision are just some of the impressive highlights of the SD4H. The font size on the On-Screen-Display is larger than the FI9828P. The voice prompts are more relevant. The human tracking feature works great. There are more settings to tweak the camera to your liking. In summary, a great camera at a great price from a reliable company!

I have been using Foscam as my security camera of choice for over 10 years now. Over time I’ve seen a better quality product, better software, and better reliability of the cameras and systems. They are easy to setup and use and they also work with my Synology NAS where I back up the recordings. Whenever I had any issues or questions customer service has always been responsive and helpful. Majority of my cameras are indoors, but I decided on the brand new Foscam SD4H after an exhaustive search since I wanted to upgrade our security outdoors as well. The PTZ feature is something I have had on all my cameras and I like it. I was able to mount and setup the new camera very easily via WiFi. I have all of my cameras setup of over WiFi so I’ve never used Ethernet in this case. I installed the SD4H with the Foscam iPhone app. Just scan and it’s setup. The image quality is superb and with 18x zoom, AI detection and night vision at that distance you can’t go wrong. I like that these cameras are well built and at a reasonable cost. Would suggest everyone who hasn’t tried the Foscam cameras to give them a chance. They won’t regret it.

Camera won’t stay online. Every time the power would go out the camera would stay offline. Would have to drive home and reset camera and re-establish the link again, climb up and have the camera scan the picture on my phone. Now it’s staying Offline until you select it in the app to review it. This camera is a terrible option for a camera to use if you have to be away from home a lot. Do not recommend. Also have their more expensive camera and it will never show that it records to anything and neither will connect to Blue Iris account. Waste of money and time. And good luck with customer service, they have yet to figure anything out. The $25 dollar cameras I bought on Amazon as a set work 1000 times better.

Doesn't work for me.... maybe for you be careful Amazon is involved Foscam will jerk your around with nice talk but the recommended changes didn't work either.....Keep in mind this is from China...so it's a crap shoot

This is a 5 star security camera - without question - especially with the 18X OPTICAL ZOOM...It is impervious to bad weather and provides excellent images wirelessly. I have owned several "security-type" outdoor cams and feature to feature, this CAMERA EITHER EQUALS OR SURPASSES all of them...Overall, a sturdy addition to anyone's outdoor camera home protection resources. More importantly, Foscam's Customer Service Resources Agent Nora Chau, is a personable backup resource readily available to product owners who might have questions or other ongoing needs. My wife and consider this camera to be the best outdoor security camera we have ever owned and happily recommend it wholeheartedly. Thank you, Foscam...for a great, rock-solid, product and fast,reliable customer service support. My wife and I simply could not ask for more!

At the beginning I would have rated this camera a 5 star. I purchased this camera last June. It had great reviews, and I didn't mind spending the money for it. This year the infrared lights went out and I tried everything possible to rectify the problem to include rebooting and resetting the camera also rebooting our internet and Wi-Fi. Since I reset the camera, I now cannot configure the Wi-Fi. I even placed the camera right next to the router and modem. So, at this moment I have a useless camera.
