Focal Sib Evo Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 Home Cinema System

High quality Atmos speaker set for home cinema use. I purchased this set to upgrade from a 5.1 system to the Atmos 5.1.2 style replacing a Pioneer system (Pioneer receiver and matching Pioneer speakers) and they are used with a Sony STRDH790.CEK 7.2 receiver . First thing you notice about the Focal speakers is that they are a lot bigger and heavier than they look in the online images, especially the front speakers comprising the L & R stereo and the upfiring Atmos speakers. My speaker stands could not cope with the additional weight and new stands, Duronic Speaker Stand SPS1022-80, had to be purchased before use. The front centre speaker was wall mounted using the supplied bracket and is a lot more obvious than the previous Pioneer speaker. In use the clarity and definition from the Focal speakers (in conjunction with the Sony receiver) surpasses the previous Pioneer setup by a large margin. Using the Dolby test files available online there are a number of additional sounds that can't be heard with the Pioneer setup. As the front Atmos speakers have both the stereo and Atmos speakers you will have to run an additional speaker cable to each side to drive the upfiring Atmos drivers. Volume is more than you will need for a living room type setup and the bass response is incredible for a small active subwoofer. Only niggle is that although the receiver, connected through a single HDMI cable to the eARC input, switches off when the TV is switched off, the subwoofer does not. The Focal manual suggests that the subwoofer will automatically switch off with the receiver, however mine does not despite being set at the recommended settings. As for the Atmos, I have yet to notice any obvious effects from the upfiring speakers, although they do produce sound when an Atmos source is playing - just not that audible from the listening position.

Amazing system, not small. Room filling sound.

I have spent hours trying to get these speaker to produce an atmos sound coming from height. All I can say is that the concept, at least for me ,does not work. If you are buying these for atmos look else where.The other speakers sound OK, the subwoofer is good. But very disappointed overall.
