Transformed my 2019 27-inch iMac from painfully slow to lightning fast
My 2019 5K iMac had been crawling along on its original failing 2 TB Fusion Drive. Cold boot times were routinely 5โ8 minutes, and even opening apps felt like 2010 all over again. I had heard success stories of opting for an external drive to replace the failing Fusion Drive and bought the ACASIS Thunderbolt 3 enclosure + Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB combo. Result: - Cold boot to login screen: 25 seconds - Fully usable desktop: 40 seconds - Parallels Desktop now runs Windows 11 + Debian Linux side-by-side with zero lag (impossible before) - Large file transfers are instant - Maintained 2 TB of storage Install was straightforward: cloned my drive, set the external as startup disk, and it just worked. The built-in fan is whisper-quiet but keeps the 990 PRO cool even under heavy load. Build quality is excellent โ solid aluminum, short Thunderbolt cable included, and the little fan toggle is a nice touch. If you have an older Intel iMac thatโs dragging its feet, this might be the single best upgrade you can make in 2025. Zero regrets โ my six-year-old machine feels brand new again. Highly recommended!

Works with ipad Pro get the version with the fan
This is a USB4 Thunderbolt 3 case. Fast. Works great. I have 3. It is a little pricey at $99us. But thunderbolt cases are much more expensive than standard USB3.2 cases. I have 2 with the intergraded fan and one without the fan. My drives run so much cooler with the fan. For longevity of your drives I recommend the version with the fan. Just make sure you don't block the intake to the fan. Hooks up to my M2 iPad Pro perfectly. Fan is very quite I can barely hear it.

Runs Fast and Cool from Mac mini M4
Very happy with this silent fan Thunderbolt enclosure from Acasis. Installation of WD Black SN770 2tb M.2 2280 NVMe was quick & easy and Blackmagic app showed sustained 2680 writes/2860 reads using included thunderbolt cable when attached to my Mac mini M4. These speeds are faster than internal drive in my Mac mini M4. Temp was acceptable with thermal pads provided with enclosure however I did add "icepc M.2 2280 SSD Pure Copper Heatsink Kit Cooler" and iStat menu app showed @ 10 degrees cooler temps compared with the thermal pads only. Probably cause the copper/thermal pad combo now has a very tight fit and contacts enclosure lid. Push button on enclosure allows fan to be turned on/off - but I leave it on (pushed in). Fan is very quiet and makes a big difference in cooling than with it off.

Reliable, quiet, fast, Thunderbolt-powered
This enclosure works well with my MacBook Air M1. As a single enclosure, it pushes data, both reads and writes, at speeds close 90 percent of my MacBook Air's built-in drive, so it is clearly using all 4 PCIe channels of the T4 interface. It requires no external power because T4 power requirements are sufficient to run this actively cooled device with a 4TB M.2 drive installed. It features active cooling via a 50mm fan which runs silently. I have pushed this to its speed limit under stress for 15 mins, and the unit's temperature was never more than just warm. I could feel, but not hear, the small fan running when it was under stress. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Received warranty replacement
Been using for about 2 months and have no issues or complaints other than not really knowing if the fan is turned off or on. Lost my high frequency hearing and have to guess @ the setting. Of course that does explain that the fan is quiet. Have a WD 2TB ssd and it works well. Actually the read & write is faster than my 256GB SSD in my Mac mini M4. No issues with heat -- I run TG Pro to monitor the temps and have been very satisfied with the performance. There are others out there but I went with Acacias based on reviews. No regrets at this time. Edit: 6 months in use -- Working thru an exchange of emails with support we determined the fan is not working. According to web site the warranty is for one year. I asked them about warranty gave them order number and other information. Their response and I quote -- "We have forwarded your question to the colleague in charge of Amazon, and they will contact you later to discuss the relevant matters. Please wait patiently. Thank you." I have been waiting one month so far! Changing my rating due to positive response from Accasis. They have replaced the failing unit. Still not putting at 5 stars due to the fact I had to contact via email several times to get warranty replacement.

GPU's are DEFINITELY supported!
ACASIS TBU401 PRO Works flawlessly with a ASUS Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti GPU connected to it via NVME to PCI-E x16 adaptor by ADT link short and long style adaptors or on NVME to Occulink adaptor both same max speed PCI-E 3.0 x4 and NVME SSD's show up as if it was internally connected to the intel system and Samsung magician on the intel system sees SSD's connected as if it was internally connected too make sure you select always connect in Thunderbolt Control Center i tested this on Windows 11 23H2 64-bit with a high end intel Core i9 9880H with thunderbolt 3 that supports dual display port mode and when you boot up your system the connected GPU doesn't actually show up on boot up or BIOS until windows 11 actually loads and when you're on the windows login screen and if you have a display connected to the GPU the display will automatically turn on and switch over lightning fast to the display connected to the GPU's video out connected monitor so yes perfect to add a secondary GPU to your intel system a homemade DiY eGPU on the cheap! as for AMD none of that works at least not with the ryzen 4000 series with a SSD it shows that it's not internally connected like the intel system and it shows up as Realtek RTL9210 and Samsung magician sees it also as a Realtek RTL9210 and not as a internally connected SSD like the intel system the AMD system is a AMD Ryzen 7 4700u on both platforms I never seen or experienced it random disconnects or that it gets hot none of that is true don't listen to what others says because it is a flawless enclosure that physically has a intel jhl7440 thunderbolt chip and a Realtek RTL9210 for fallback

Good so far, 3 internal temp sensors on 401 Pro
I put a Samsung 990P 2TB in my 401 Pro case. Everything was a breeze except that it took me a moment to read the instructions and put the little rubber grommet in to hold down the SSD drive; otherwise it wanted to angle up. Plugged it into my Mac, it said it was unreadable and offered to initialize it, which opened up Disk Utility. Not entirely obvious but it seems Erase is the command you choose to format a drive. That took less than a minute. After that MacOS volunteered to back my internal drive up to this via Time Machine, and I acquiesed quickly and set it to use no more than 1.25TB of the 2TB. I was pleased to see that the enclosure apparently has no less than 3 temperature sensors (again, this is the Pro version with fan, so I don't know about the normal version nor about previous Pro versions if any). They don't show up on most of my utilities, but they do show up on TG Pro. So far the drive has been running for an hour solid and the highest of the 3 cases temperatures (Top Case) is 44 C. The enclosure specs and the drive specs both say max 70 C, so I'm pretty happy with 44 C--in fact, the highest sensor on my internal drive is reading the same. I am wondering how long I can expect the drive to last. I won't be doing A/V work, but I will move my massive Photos library to the drive, in addition to Time Machine. I'm guessing maybe 5 years is a pretty safe bet? I expect SSD storage to drop further in price by then. BTW, I am assuming that if the enclosure dies I just move the SSD to a new enclosure. Of course, if the SSD dies, the data is gone, but that's why this drive is for backups, local copies, and other non-crucial things.

Excellent Speed, Poor Fan Design
The speed of this external SSD carrier is as advertised, even with a mid-grade SSD, which is impressive. However, I would recommend buying the non-fan version due to the exceptionally poor fan integration. The fan appears to be an afterthought, providing negligible value at best and a false sense of security at worst. First off, my fan doesn't even turn on. If it did, it would only blow air onto the carrier board rather than the SSD itself. This is a significant design flaw because the vent slots by the SSD are blocked by the cover, and there are no other openings for air to reach the SSD. As a result, there is almost no ventilation for the SSD, which I found to run very warm during heavy use. The included thermal sheets (0.5mm and 1.0mm strips) are a nice thought but do not effectively close the gap between the SSD and the cover. Moreover, since the SSD doesn't sit flat, the contact area would be minimal, rendering the thermal interface largely ineffective. I am an electrical engineer with significant experience in thermal designs. Zero stars for the fan integration. Five stars for the SSD integration, which has worked perfectly on my Mac. I did want to mention that the tool-less cover is really nice and works well. Despite the issues with the enclosure fan, I still think cooling is a good idea. To ensure my SSD runs cool and has a long life, I plan to 3D print a holder with an external fan. Currently, I have the cover off with a USB external fan providing circulation. In summary, while the speed performance and SSD integration are excellent, the enclosure fan integration is ineffective and not worth the extra cost. If you prioritize thermal management, consider opting for the non-fan version and finding a way to improve the cooling yourself.

Works great with a Mac mini m4
Purchased this to house a Samsung 990 PRO 2TB SSD attached to a Mac mini m4. Easy to set up and it works great. Connected to a TB4 port in the back of the Mac mini (using the cable that came with the enclosure), I find the read/write speed to be very fast. This allows me to run Lightroom and photoshop, as well as other large apps on the external drive and keep the small internal drive of a base Mac mini freed up. LR and PS open very quickly and run smoothly. I attached one of the heat strips (thicker one) that came with the enclosure to the SSD and I run the fan on the enclosure. The fan is very quiet. The enclosure sits on my desk, behind a monitor and I don't notice it running. Without the fan, the enclosure did get a bit warm (I wouldn't say hot). With the fan, it stays pretty cool and the SSD temperature seems to drop 10C with the fan running. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Very nicely built unit
Looks like great quality product. Came with all required to mount your M.2 NVMe SSD stick. Fan can be a bit noisy but there is a little button that actually turns it off. In actuality the unit rarely gets very warm. I monitor it and if I see it is a bit warm (and I mean a BIT) all just hit the button for and let the fan run for a while. Not the best scenario. If the unit is positioned out of the way of your work area you might not really hear the fan at all. A bit pricy but inline with similar devices available.
