Midwest Hearth Professional Thermometer for Kamado Style Charcoal Grills (3" Dial)

For the first year and a half this thermometer was flawless, accurate easy to read, and always bang on temp. Unfortunately after being used two to three times a week, it has started sticking and I have to keep tapping the glass to get it to read correctly. For the amount of use and for the impressive temperature range, I'd say it was worth the $38 for the 18 to 20 months of operation it gave me.

The first replacement thermometer I bought for my BGE (purchased in 2007) didn't fit because the thermometer stem was close to 1/4" diameter and my dome only had an 1/8" hole in it. This one fits well, and arrived well calibrated according to the boiling water test.

I’ve had mine for about 6 months. I purchased my egg second hand and the previous owner had replaced his with the BGE version 3 times in the years that he had had it. When I bought my egg, it wasn’t working anymore, because he had given up constantly replacing the thing. So I read the reviews and found this one. I decided that I wanted one that could be calibrated, but truth is it tested dead on when I got it. It was easy to install, and the only time I’ve ever had issues were my fault (I accidentally let the end of the probe touch the food). Honestly m this is a backup device for me, since I’ve been using a grate thermometer. But this one is easy to read and has lasted through a lot of cooks. Also it’s survived the abuse of being left out in the rain a number of times when I’ve either forgotten to cover my egg or it’s rained while smoking. But it seems no worse for the wear. Highly recommended.

The dome thermometer on my Akorn Kamado was off by 60º or more. After installing this one I taped a probe from SmokeWorks next to the Midwest Hearth probe and started a fire in my grill. The photo shows just how accurate the new thermometer is. Spot on! It is so good to have an accurate thermometer.

It's a perfect fit for the big green egg but.... Mine sticks until the temp gets 50-100° hotter then what it's currently reading i.e. When it shows 200° it will stay until the temp actually gets to 300° or if I flick it. Say it's reading 350° after flicking the front glass, I'll open the big green egg lid for a while then shut it, the gauge still reads 350° until I flick it again. It's very annoying and I wish that I returned with my return window. For $42 I should have just purchased and oem for the same price.***Update***Seller reached out and sent me a advanced replacement for my defective thermometer. The new one works as it should. I can't ask for a better result from this seller!

Purchased this for the Holiday cooks on the Big Green Egg. Arrived and I was immediately was impressed; very attractive large and easy to read gauge. Used twice right away and worked well.Did not use the egg for awhile and prepped for my next cook. Got set up and cooking and tried to rotate the dial so it was straight with the egg, but the dial housing and the face turned but not the needle. There is no way to tighten or stop the face from freely spinning separate from the needle.It makes this gauge completely unreliable and it is senseless to calibrate because it will move away from accurate so easily.A very expensive worthless replacement.

The thermometer arrived with a cracked face as seen in the attached photo. There was no apparent damage to the exterior of the box which contained it.Amazon very promptly arranged a refund.Would not feel confident to attempt to order again.
