powerful and efficient, good value
I ordered this for my 14' swim spa, which I intend to keep around 96F year round in the Midwest. The device took some work to unpack, but installation was pretty straightforward. My only complaint was that the electrical hookup didn't have a hole for a round liquid-tight flex conduit fitting, so I had to snug the electrical line itself down as best I could to the device's electrical panel.I've run the heater for several weeks now, including in 20-30F outdoor temperatures while heating the swim spa to 96F. The coils start to freeze when the ambient temperature is near or below zero, but this is no problem as the heat pump periodically reverses and defrosts the coils in about 30 seconds, then continues heating the pool. The heat pump seems to heat the pool as per its nameplate power rating. I was a bit confused about the power rating at first, as the nameplate says the max power is at 90Hz, not 60Hz, which made no sense given that line frequency is always 60Hz. It turns out this is because the compressor runs at variable speeds due to the inverter tech, which converts to DC and then back to AC with variable frequency. This is a big plus in my view -- I noticed when the inlet temperature is very much below the set point, it consumes about 2kW running at max power to heat up quickly, but for regular cycles around the set point, it consumes only about 1100W. This speed variability presumably improves the efficiency, and the energy meter I put on the line shows the electrical consumption has gone down substantially, probably around 1/3 of what it was for resistive heating. This roughly matches the claimed coefficient of performance.Once I got it running, I was trying to get the temperature swing under 0.5F (see the temperature plot), but I was getting swings around 2F. I emailed the tech support, which responded the next day with detailed answers to my questions. It turns out the unit has a lot of internal settings which can be accessed through the control panel. These are described in the user manual but weren't always clear. I was able to lower the swing setting and get to about 1.5F swing. Still not perfect, but definitely good enough.I understand the device shuts off when the ambient drops below 20F. I expect it will automatically come back on again as the temperature rises, but I'll edit the review if it has to be manually reset.EDIT: A few nights ago I left it running when the ambient temperature plunged to zero degrees F. It kept running and continued raising the pool temperature around 8F ambient temperature but could only hold the pool temperature steady around 97F water temperature at 0F ambient temperature. I was worried that the low ambient temperature might slug the compressor, so I emailed tech support. They emailed back within a few hours to say that you can run the unit all the way down to -18F (!) ambient temperature, and below that it will shut itself off with an error code (E23) to protect the compressor. They only recommend running it down to +20F ambient temperature, as the efficiency drops below that, but you can safely leave it running. This is great for a year-round hot tub.Bottom line: It works well as advertised, even when it is down to 20F outside. I would definitely buy again.

Not as described.
Did not receive any instructions. Did not come with electrical hook up. Very disappointed. Would not recommend at all! And could not get in contact with mfg with questions.

EU70 is total heating powerhouse!
I started off with a EU50 that was fine, heating my 3K Gal pool to 90 +/- w/ night temps 40f - day temps 70f. After about 1 year; the EU50 started to fail and found this EU70, wanting to stick with a simple 120V solution. This EU70 is a serious heating monster; in 12 hours at 40f outside temp it raised my pool from 60f to 70f; i have no doubt in 2 days it will be at 90f. great product, fit my exact needs.

Works great!
I have a 18ft by 9ft by 4ft rectangular pool in Wisconsin and this heater is wonderful! Paired with a solar cover, this heater really heats the entire pool. Outside temps here are 70’s during the day and 50’s at night at the moment and the pool is still VERY comfortable to be in. I did have to purchase one extra hose to complete the line between the pump and the heated.

It does what it’s supposed to
Due to lack of reviews I thought it would be helpful to share my opinion on this heater. I live in Michigan. Pool in picture is 5,000 gallons so it’s at its max of what the heater is rated for. Does it work? Yes, to a point. Heat addition or losses is measured in BTU’s. The heater can only add so many BTU’s. If the weather is cold and sucking more BTU’s out of your pool than the heater can add, then your pool will not heat up. I found that outside temp to be 60 degrees F. If it was 60 outside and no sun then the heater couldn’t keep up and pool would cool off. 60 outside WITH sun and I was able to keep the pool at 89 degrees F. It Kept our pool warm during the summer months, but whenever it gets below 60 degrees outside the heater cannot keep up with BTU’s being pulled out of the pool. Maybe the next size up would’ve worked better? Fittings-throw away the fittings that came with the heater, they don’t work and will leak, go to ace hardware and buy threaded fittings and make your own connections.

It's fire 🔥
I had lot frustration setting this up and I was almost going to pack it and return. The major problem I had was the VERY poor and confusing electrical connection instructions but once this started working it took two days to bring our pool form 76f to 90f and we enjoying it so much now my kids won't get out the pool now I have to yell at them. This is actually a very good heater but will see it how it goes comes colder months.
