I had been looking for a small umbrella to keep in my work bag to prepare for unexpected showers. Bought a different item which I ended up throwing out because the canopy wouldn't lock into position (and discovered the problem too late to return it). It's strange to say it about such an inexpensive item, but this little guy is well made. It's reliable and sturdy, and even comes with a neat little drawstring pouch to keep it clean. It's tiny when folded up, but big enough to provide decent protection when it's deployed. I have purchased several of them.

I gave this umbrella 4 stars for the price and what I wanted it for. I had previously bought a quality folding umbrella that cost 5 or 6 times as much, and it is certainly the one I would use if I were going out in a downpour. But at 11 inches when folded, it does not fit into my purse. I plan to use this umbrella to carry in my purse when there is only a chance of rain. Yes, this SY Compact umbrella is more difficult to open and close, and its handle is somewhat wobbly when extended. I suspect it would not be good in high winds and has to be treated gently. But I was surprised by how big the canopy is when opened, and it fits easily and neatly into its carrying pouch. If you can only get one "travel" umbrella, spend more and get a better one. But for me it is what I expected for the price and much more convenient for keeping handy for the days you may or may not get a sprinkle.

I bought this umbrella for a trip in 2022 that was dry so I did not need the umbrella. Fast forward 11 months and I take it on my next backpacking trip in an Ireland. On the third use It was blown inside out and 2 of the metal ribs were broken by a huge gust of wind that probably was in excess of 70mph.. Since the umbrella was described as wind proof I contacted the seller and inquired about a replacement under their warranty. The seller responded quickly and immediately shipped a replacement that arrived in 3 days. Excellent service. The umbrella is big enough to keep me dry and packs very small, fitting easily into a side pocket of my pack. It even has a soft carry bag with drawstring closure. Nice!

Do not waist your time on this. Foldability sucked, sure it’s compact but you’re sacrificing quality by miles. The overall quality was trash. If it comes with a nice cover and is advertised as compact then clearly there’s compromise somewhere else. The handle stick part also doesn’t have a method for extending you just slightly pull it to extend. At the top near the umbrella part you have to push it into place for it to open and that felt very fragile and weak, not an umbrella I’d use in the PNW, and for 10$ it’s not worth anyone’s money. It’s like 2 rain droplets and a windy day away from falling apart.

The positives: It was lightweight, has a full sized arch (38”), is compact when folded (7 1/2”), and was inexpensive. In fact, those were really the only factors I was looking for when I ordered the umbrella. However, the umbrella has other features that were disappointing. 1) It is very difficult to push the umbrella open far enough to “catch” the little piece that will keep it open. I think there may be two problems. One, the catch is too small and two, it requires a lot of strength to push it far enough to catch. And I have to give it a little twist in order for it to catch. It usually takes several tries before I can successfully open the umbrella. 2) The umbrella closes over the spokes and they all have to be perfectly aligned in order for the shaft to stay closed (telescoped) in order to hang it. Again, it’s a difficult process that usually takes me several tries. Also disappointing, but entirely my own fault- I failed to select a color, so I received black instead of the purple I wanted to order. Not their fault. I need another umbrella and am probably not going to order the one I got from Sy Compact again even though it has all the features I want- lightweight, full size arch, compact when folded and inexpensive. It’s just too hard to use.

This umbrella is functional and fits in your pocket. It’s a good plan for those sudden showers while traveling. It’s a bit clunky to open as one might expect but it does the job for emergencies. It’s lightweight so it doesn’t weight down your luggage.

Good lightweight umbrella.

I just took delivery of this umbrella (today 17Jan25) and found that the actual length is not as advertised. Your description states the umbrella length is 7.64 inches. The one I received is 10 inches (over a full 2 inches longer) so it is not as compact as I expected. I will keep it but, am very disappointed with the false advertising, as I particularly wanted a smaller umbrella.

The umbrella is very good size, ideal for carrying in backpack pocket. a little bit flimsier than I expected, I hope it goes well in wind, as I am not sure how flexible it is. Ok so far.

Absolute waste of money. I bought this based on all the positive reviews. Wish I’d just read the one star reviews as they’re more accurate. This umbrella is so difficult to open that you’d be drenched by the time you finally got it open.

It is compact but it also is a little bit flimsy. it’s a bit hard to lock open into place and the actual knob at the bottom moves around and it won’t click into place when you want to look it up I wouldn’t recommend this product
