Recently decided to start a model railway, with little or no experience I decided to go down the TT120 path because of space restrictions. Was I glad that I went with this set, the loco is bluetooth controlled, has sound decoder fitted, carriages come with lights and enough track to get started. The price I paid was less than a lot of other retailers. So I regard this train set as a good way to get started. The level of detail is staggering considering the size of everything. You download the free app to your tablet, laptop or phone and away you go. This train set has now expanded beyond the original track packs and given me many, many hours of pleasure.

Got this up and running after a few failed attempts, but all in under one hour. It works well, runs well, the sounds are good and a bit of fun. At first, attaching the tracks was a bit fiddly. Coupling and decoupling the carriages seems the work of luck rather than skill. Getting the train and carriages on the track without the tool is difficult.. The only shame is that lights on the carriages are always on and can't be turned off without additional decoders. The software needed to run the trains is a bit cumbersome, and I can't imagine running more than 1 train at a time from it, but it's adaptable to change acceleration and deceleration speeds to make it realistic.

I didnt really know what to expect. Some people have suggested that the new TT120 are not that good. Well. That is absolutely not my experience. First impressions are not helped by the packing being 'eco' and made from recycled cardboard, but forget that, get it unpacked, and set up. From a value point of view its wonderful value. You get the whole thing for around the price of 4 coaches. You get 3 coaches, the locomotive, all the track, and the transformer. Everything you need. The locomotive its self has far more weight than i had expected, and its runs very well. The coaches have lights in them and the whole things just feels 'quality'. This set is not digital, but analogue. However you can buy a chip to convert it, so its future proof too. Of course, because its so nice, you are going to want to add to it, and a few buildings, some more track, etc is going to cost you, but i suspect you could have many many hours of fun, no matter how old you are, so re-live your youth, or introduce another generation. Its all good, and with TT120, you can have a much bigger layout than OO in the room you have available.

Bought it as a gift because it was a complete set, but the controller doesn’t work. Very disappointing. Would prefer to pay more and get a piece of kit that’s actually fit for purpose.

A raillway on your table top - TT120. This is a manageable scale, being smaller than OO and larger and less fiddly than the tiny N Guage. You can achieve a well-featured layout on a 4' x 3' board. Modelling officiandos will appreciate that this is a true scale, and absolutely proprtionately correct. This is the digital version of the set, and the locomotive is fitted with a chip that operates the train features and a speaker for a wide range of train and station sounds. Rather than a traditional transformer and control knob, these digital kits use Bluetooth and an app to control the trains. I use my iPad as my train contoller and am free to walk around my layout. The actual models are exquisitely detailed, with pipework, boiler rivets, connecting rods, air pipes, etc., and are definitiely not toys - not children's toys anway. There is a good range of trains and accessories in this scale, so you can grow your railway from dining to banquetting table with ease. Fantastic
