Castey Shallow Casserole with Tempered Glass Lid, 32 cm

Oh.....this Spanish casserole dish is amazing, making Tortilla (huge fried omelette basically) usually sticks and burns underneath (using hob and grill) with other pans etc but not on this thing, have cooked many risottos and even some casseroles in this dish - I havent come across anything like it before, maybe because its cast aluminium but the surface characteristics are truly non stick, nothing seems to stick at all.One thing you have to get your head around is that it will attract heat quickly (the handles are cast with the dish so its one piece) and the handles may burn you if you forget, I always have to remind myself to treat it as if its just come out the oven (which you can use this for) and use oven gloves to move it around the hob. There are red rubber handles to use for this purpose, but I've found they get quite hot if left on for longer than 30 secs, I dont think its a good idea to leave them on over a gas hob, so only use them for moving then take them off, they are quite easy to put on so its no hassle, its just a new way of doing things.Its quite heavy really (for what I believe is cast aluminium, it feels like it is cast iron) but not overly heavy and the lid is solid with a SS metal handle so its oven proof. It is dishwasher safe too.I have only ever used this on a gas hob, so I can't say how it performs on electric or halogen hobs, maybe the handles dont get so hot but I'd be sceptical about that.

This casserole works brilliantly on the hob or in the oven - and can be moved between the two with no worries about it overheating, as even its lid can withstand temperatures of up to 250C. Because it is made of cast aluminium rather than cast iron, it is light enough to pick up and carry. The non-stick interior is exactly that - it is seemingly impossible to burn anything onto it and everything can be wiped off it with a damp cloth. We have had cast iron casseroles for many years and have used them to cook many different dishes for our family of five. This casserole is in a different league of practicality, whilst still being big enough and strong enough to do the job. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for a casserole to use either on the hob or in the oven - or both!

Really annoyed it does not say anywhere that this casserole is not induction compatible. I had bought another one which I LOVE a few years ago and decided to treat myself to another. It is a real pain as the supplier is in Spain so look out for a supplier in the UK instead because I had to pay return postage at £14 not refunded so don't by from this seller.

A superb product and much easier to handle than my cast iron casserole.

I have quite a few Castey pans so was looking forward to trying this one. Immediately returned it however as the handles were a very bad fit which could easily result in dropping the pan or pulling the handles of accidentally with a silicone over glove. Poor handle design, preffered the other handle types they used to have.
