Considering this is the 4th in the series I wasn't expecting much but I've been pleasantly surprised. Decent mix of modern house basslines with a few older classics thrown in. Not sure if there's a theme to each CD as it's just a list of tracks. But really who cares, there must be a good 4 hours worth of decent house music here, waste of time trying to over analyse this sort of stuff. Bottom line is if you liked the first 3 you'll like this. 4 stars because there must be 4 or 5 track that are on the previous albums, (even if they are different mixes it's a bit cheap). Still good though.

Pure Deep House 4 sticks firmly to its cause, offering up two mixes of today’s electronically infused House & Garage sounds, and then spinning up a collection of more established and recognisable classic tunes on the third mix. The compilation leaves itself open to a series of questions including – who mixed each of the sets, what kind of equipment was used to produce the compilation and which of the three sets should we play first? Jittery to start, the first two sets mirror previous releases, where careful compiling and subtle mixing styles are applied, leaving all dynamics to each of the individual tracks. For those who have invested in a decent set of headphones (regardless of their cost), this compilation is sure to hit any dusty areas with a series of flighty treble highs, precision engineered base grooves, a timing that seems about spot on and if your kit allows it, a massive gap in the middle where everything else is allowed to move around to its heart’s content. This in itself may sound a little strange as the entire compilation is built around a ridiculous level of minimalist, fresh and low key production additions. Some sensational vocals are given pride of place and any unbalance is swiftly met with a series of drifts and turns which aim to hold the listeners attention. The second set continues on from the first, refraining from all dynamics and introduces some dark and murky layers to the more uplifted predeceasing sounds. Less structured base rhythms breathe life to the mix and during its darkest moments, throws out a series of electro voids and forward progressions before osculating to a higher level in anticipation of the third set. As per usual (with the exception of PDH 2), the third set spins up another head-wrecking, show-off concoction of established grooves and showcases a freestyle club like mix, where a series of contributions stretching from east coast to west coast are masterfully worked together. Featuring a supply of cuts, edits and remixes that dominate from start to finish, the set is firmly jammed together and whether it brings a smile to your face or a tear to your eye, it's sure to leave many a listener feeling like hitting the decks themselves. All in all, younger listeners and fans of today’s electronic sounds will probably get more bang for their buck from this release. With a little more love, a little more attention and perhaps a drive to produce something more substantial, this could have been a great mix; as it stands, it’s only ok.
