Don't over fill it. Just grind a small amount at a time.
It works well, just like I expected.

Grinds Extremely Well and Itโs Very Well Built
Iโve tried numerous styles of spice grinders in the past and was always disappointed in how they worked. The electric ones have to be plugged in, the battery powered ones have to be charged, and the sphere shaped ones appear to be geared more towards marijuana than grinding spices. The Kabin cast iron spice grinder is exactly what you need for grinding small amounts of your own spices. As you can see in the picture, it pulverizes rosemary with ease. It took me about 30 seconds to get that fine of a grind from dried rosemary. You get this amazing smell of your chosen spice as soon as you start grinding, and the flavor comes out beautifully strong. The size is perfect to fit both my hands and my wifeโs. It takes minimal effort and can be done with one hand if you put the bottom part on a kitchen towel to keep it from spinning. I might use a stick on rubber pad to not have to use a towel. Clean up should be as with any cast iron pan. Itโs made from good quality cast iron and I can see it lasting for decades. The top part can be used for storing unused spices because the wooden lid has a rubber seal to keep out moisture. The lid even has different compartments for teaspoon and tablespoon measurements. I am very happy with the Kabin spice grinder and can highly recommend it to anyone who wants to grind their own spices.

works great, keep it clean and dry
Awsome! got a lesser review because the bigger version does not have the measure lid. Grinds finer than I thought it would. Do not let it sit in water or stay wet for too long. Season like a cast iron skillet (obviously, do not season with wood lid).

The smell difference of the crushed spices alone tells you that this grinder is high end.
I am very pleased with this purchase. After struggling for years with grinders that seem to become less effective with each use I knew this cast iron grinder would be dependable and I'm VERY pleased with quality of this cast iron. Through the years I've collected cast iron pots and skillets. This grinder is high quality cast iron not cheap cast iron. Your grandkids will want this to pass on to their grandkids. Cure this lightly with a very thin coating of oil after drying it thoroughly, then bake it at low heat for a short time and you'll fall in love with the finish. It's ok to get them wet it's just not ok to let them remain wet. Towel drying IS NOT sufficient. Never let it soak. Cast iron also does not react well with tomatoes or highly acidic foods.

Simple is best
Small but heavy duty. Grinds dry spices very well and cleans easily enough with a paper towel. I prefer this manual method to an electric grinder that has more moving parts (that can break) and would be more difficult to clean.

This is perfect!
I love grinding up my spices like cardamom seeds, fenugreek seeds, and peppercorns, as I need them. I used to use a mortar and pestle, but that became more difficult with age. This little spice grinder works so much better than the old method, which I still use for herbs, just not hard seeds. It's easy to clean and small enough to keep with my herbs in the cabinet. Since it doesn't need plugged in, it requires no counter space, which is a huge bonus for me. I highly recommend this for the average herbalist or anyone who likes to grind their own herbs to use for cooking.

Rusted!
The item works like it should, however, Iโm giving it 1 star because it rusted around. I canโt use it now until I cure it. I believe it was supposed to come cured already. I havenโt washed it except when I took it out of the box. Luckily I work with cast iron pans, so I know when to do. Itโs a tedious process and may take several times as any good cast iron should. I probably would have stuck to a different spice grinder knowing this first because its just a grinder and not cookware. It even smells rusted.

Nice little grinder
It grinds, good, nice and heavy.. the lead gasket needs to be more secure. Itโs itโs loose. It wonโt keep it ingredients in there.

I recently purchased the KABIN Spice Mill Grinder as a gift, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. This grinder is not only stylish and well-crafted but also highly functional. Firstly, the quality of the grinder is exceptional. It's sturdy and feels durable, giving off a rustic charm that adds to its appeal. I'm confident the recipient of this gift will appreciate its craftsmanship and the attention to detail that went into its design. I will be purchasing a few more iron cast mills from KABIN and gift them to family and friends, while keeping this one for myself. Therefore, I can also attest to its performance; this miller-grind is crafted with great detail, I can describe it as 'top notch'. It mills effortlessly, producing great results every time depending on the pressure applied. What's great is that it's not limited to just spices; it can also be used for milling herbs and crushing nuts. Just be sure not to mill too much to avoid ending up with herb/nut dust. In short, this item is a versatile addition to any kitchen or would be a great companion for camping trips. It's worth mentioning that one of the best things about this grinder is its value for money. Similar products on the market usually come with a hefty price tag, but the KABIN Spice Mill Grinder offers superior quality at a fair price. It's a practical and thoughtful gift that doesn't break the bank. Overall, I'm confident that everyone I know needs this grinder. It's a practical yet stylish addition to any kitchen, and its high-quality craftsmanship ensures that it will last for years to come. With its exceptional value and functionality, it's a product I'm proud to recommend to others.

I didn't have any issues with mine showing up with rust. Reading here that it was entirely unseasoned, I opted to just season it off the get go. Heated it to about 180f on the stove, oil coated it lightly. Baked it at 400f for 45 minutes. (It's small, 45 minutes worked fine, added an additional 5 minutes at the end). Some butcher block oil on the lid, and let it rest overnight. This morning gave it a shot with peppercorns and cloves which I read were issues. The peppercorns were toasted. They ground up perfectly in 7 twists. It was just a small handful. I twist half a circle left and the other half back right for the full rotation x 7. The cloves took a touch more grinding, and you've got to readjust the stuff that clumps on the edges somewhat, but I could powder it easily enough. I found transferring the ground spice into the 'pestle' side, the spout like grove helps pour it into the measuring container, but as noted in reviews... It's just cute. Use a scale! Lol Great unit. It'll last forever.

This is an exceptionally well thought out product. Itโs easy to use: just grind the two parts together with your hands (not on the counter like the instructions say). Itโs much easier than a mortar/pestle for dry goods. Great for those recipes that call for lots of fresh ground pepper or for those of you wanting that extra oomph from fresh ground spices.
