I didn't use the granny square yarn to make granny squares
I'm new to crocheting and this was only my second real project. After acquiring this yarn, I read and watched enough reviews of the granny square yarn from people who apparently know what that they're doing that I decided it was probably going to end in frustration if I tried to use it "properly." The reviews were pretty consistent about saying that there's usually a lot of frogging and re-working involved to get the colors to end exactly as they're supposed to when you're trying to use it for making granny squares. So, I just used it to make an simple double-crochet afghan. And I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to learn, as I used the yarn, that the five colors repeat in exactly the same pattern, with the same amount of each throughout. I had hoped that there'd be some variation so that if you were using it for granny squares, the resulting squares wouldn't have to be all identical. But whatever. As for using the yarn as I did for my project: I liked it. I LOVE the colors (actually had a hard time choosing which colorway to get because I think most of them are gorgeous). I found the yarn easy to handle, very little splitting (taking into account that I don't really know what I'm doing yet), makes a nice, fairly soft, stretchy stitch. I would buy it again. My understanding is that acrylic isn't super-soft and I'd say this is NOT super-soft -- probably wouldn't want to wear it as a sweater against my bare skin -- but it's actually pretty nice for an afghan. I did notice that some colors within the colorway some of the colors were consistently more or less bulky or thin than others. I have no idea how the stuff is put together, but it seemed like there were points where I could even see where one color had been attached to the other. I didn't see this as a problem -- changing colors is going to result in joins and they're not always invisible. I'm learning to crochet as a way to relax and just enjoy creating stuff, so I'm not so serious about it that an occasional imperfection in the yarn is going to ruin my project. I actually find a bit of variability and imperfection to add interest to the project. Anyway, as a beginner, I really find no fault with this yarn, for the purposes that I used it for. I very much like the afghan that I made, as does my cat -- had to pry it out from under her, in fact, in order to take the photos (please excuse the cat hair). I doubt that if I do get into making granny squares that I would purchase this yarn for that purpose. I think I'd rather have the control of making a variety of variations on a given color theme, rather than a whole bunch of absolutely identical squares. But I would purchase this yarn again (as well as other "styles" of Red Heart's product line) with no reservations.

Great color and value
Review is long overdue. Used this yarn to make a scarf/shoulder wrap for an 100 year old whose favorite color is blue. He was pleased and would wear on cooler days. The yarn is of good quality and was easy to work with.

Red heart makes magnificent yarn!!
The most beautiful yard I’ve ever worked with. I have been able to make several sweaters using this yarn. I love red heart yarn.!!! thank you Amazon for making it available. I am 80 years old and can’t get out much and the fact that it comes right to my door is very much appreciated. I love Amazon.!!!

classic red heart quality
At first, it was hard to adjust my tension to where I actually made a square correctly. But the colors are beautiful. Even if you decide to use for some other purpose, it is great yarn.

Try it! You can do it!!
I really bought these on a whim just to see if I could make them come out "right. " Six skeins later...blanket!! Yarn is typical, economical Red Heart, so wash it on gentle and it'll get softer. Really super for mindless tv watching. Used black to join squares and it came out really quite lovely.

Get your gauge right and be ready to go over stitch
I love the color pattern I got but I will say I definitely had to restart my project a few times to get the right size gauge to get the granny pattern. I ended up using a G hook since I crochet loose. I’m making a cardigan with these squares but probably won’t get this again.still very pretty though. Update I did find a good starburst granny pattern that seems to work with this yarn the best so I probably will get more of the colors now☺️

It’s perfect!
I just learned granny squares and I love this yarn. Just practice with your tension and it won’t disappoint. Don’t give up. I’m going to make a granny square sweater. It’s relatively soft and doesn’t knot. Be sure to take your yarn off the end.

One thing I notice from this brand of yarn in comparison to the other yarns like "Pound of Love" brand and the "Mainstays - cosy brand" of yarns is that when I was asked to make a large version of an afghan for someone - what I found was this: for the Red Heart brand as seen above, I found that when I had to be able to put on 400 stitches to a 7mm knitting needle - I had to use a much LONGER needle for this type of yarn that is a bit thicker. As for the other 2 brands (mentioned above) I actually HAVE the ability to hold 400 stitches on the other brands of the yarns listed - but NOT this Red Heart brand because of their thickness. As for this yarn, it is a lot stronger or thicker and not as soft as the other 2 brands listed here - but if you are ever asked to make a much larger blanket sized afghan - this I would not use if you are only using straight needles as the thickness of this yarn will not hold it unless you have a really long needle or even circular needles to do any project. As for this yarn in general, I have never had any problems in making afghans that would be durable and thick and even last for quite a long time once the blankets are done. As for the last time I did an afghan I am still using it and the pattern I'd used has outlasted some of my other blankets.

Estou gostando muito do fio, já fiz 5 quadrados, achei leve e gostoso ao tato! Li avaliações em alemão criticando o fio e fiquei surpresa em dizerem que é duro! Vou fazer uma manta para meu neto!

Beautiful colours and ideal for granny squares. No changing yarns so a neater finish. Each ball makes 14 squares. It’s worth watching your tension with the first couple of rounds to make sure you’re using the wool correctly. Very happy with my first attempt at crochet.
