My son brought it home from school when he was 5 or 6 and I used to read it to him at bedtime. It is really only as he got older that I fully appreciated everything about this book. I think a lot of parents with boys might find they have a Zagazoo on their hands! It is so well-observed. It has really stayed with us over the years - we still look at each other from time to time and say our boy is being a bit Zagazoo! He's 16 now and thankfully showing signs of turning into the nice young man with perfect manners! Highly recommended by this old pelican! Perfect for parents of a boy!

This is such a funny book. Children and grownups love it. I always buy it for new babies, it gives their parents a warning of what is to come

Good for parents and teenagers too !
I read this book to my 12 and 15 year olds following a challenging week with my older teenager. It was a good and light hearted read and received a positive response. It was a good 'opener ' to a conversation about emotions and feelings during these difficult times and helped us all ( adults and kids) to appreciate and accept issues faced by both kids and parents alike. Several weeks on and we still refer to the animals behaviour in the book to the different stages of child development and how a teenager can experience all stages in one weekend! ! I highly recommend but choose your moment as it is really aimed for young kids .

An amazingly succinct view of the cycle of life.
This is a book of beauty. When my boys were little and I would read to them, they found it amusing that I would always fail to get to the end of it because I was in tears. It's a succinct and sensitive and beautiful thing. Amazing job from Quentin Blake!

Love Quentin Blake. Bought the book for my teenage daughter for a bit of a giggle, given the subject matter of the story. She liked it.

Charming, zany, crazy, sensible, understanding, funny, scary. Actually, it's a kid's book for adults. It's about parental reactions to raising a child and man-oh-man is it ever clever! And the illustrations are scintillating and superb, and just right! Buy it.

Dieses Buch hat mich durch die Pubertät meiner Kinder geholfen und ich schenke es immer wieder gern an anderen, die verzweifeln. Wir sind leider nun die klapprigen Pelikanen geworden, können aber trotzdem immer noch darüber lachen. Reizende Illustrationen und geniale Geschichte.
