Q: Has anyone tried mounting of these to a chain link fence?

Assuming that you ordered the pedco clamp with a wide enough gap yes they would. Go measure the fence post you would like to clamp to. Also note that, if you are talking about clamping to the fence and not to the pole / pipe edge, then the answer would be no, they would not do that. Take a close look and see that they do not screw all of the way down on the gap, so you must clamp to something with at least 1 or 1.5 inches of width. I have owned four or five of these and I have gotten to the point where I will not use them any longer. I have had multiple of these brand fall apart on me in different ways, so I am not pleased with the quality. But I will say that, if you only used these with something like a GoPro, then I think you might be fine. I will also say that they are all kinds of handy when you cannot find another way to mount a gopro / small camera. But I did have one of these refuse to un-screw from the bottom of a zoom q2n camera (thus ruining the screw mount on it). If you order one of these it can be handy, but again - I have had some funky stuff go wrong. I currently purchase other brands of clamps.

Bought for a GoPro. The large one has more options. Not super heavy duty, works great for the small camcorders.

By a Canon 7D with zoom are you referring to a Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit or similar or a longer one like EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens or even a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens or a really big mamma like a EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM? I have used an EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM with two super clamps and several bungees.
