Recently edited and much improved
The author has recently updated this book to correct previous punctuation errors and add some additional details that help to bring to life the experience of a child in the Kingdom of Benin. The book is accompanied by some free reading comprehension materials. It is always good to see an author respond to feedback from readers and the changes made make this a very useful resource for anyone studying ancient Benin with their KS2 class.

Grown ups can be nostalgic about the good old days
Informative, the diary entries in this book include narratives of activities children did in the old kingdom. Grown ups can be nostalgic about the good old days, I was. The book includes good examples to help children of today get a fairly good idea of what their age groups got up to in those days. My nieces and nephew were surprised about how much life has changed for children particularly on going to market. Hunting in the forest, they described as 'fun'. I fully recommend this book for a good flavour of children's lives in the old Kingdom of Benin.
